Magnus Eros: Divine and Daimonic Paradigms

In a past article I wrote called Eros, Orpheus & On the Origin of the World, I wrote the following conclusion:

The primordial Eros itself has a malleable nature, manifesting as a cosmogonical, demiurgic and soteriological deity or daimonic mediator between the sensible and the celestial. And the author of the Orig. World takes full advantage of this as evidence of the quotations above taken from the same text. The holistic power of Eros much like “gnosis” reveals the essential unreality of the present world; it identifies the spiritual domain as the locus of harmony and stability. It can be defined in terms of erotic love or carnal sensuality, but it also belongs in the domain of the Divine Vision as emphasized heavily by the likes of Socrates and Plato.

Mythological lore in all its forms has been used to many degrees as symbols and veiled disguises to hide certain universal metaphysical and worldly truths as allegories and not necessarily so-called knowledge that amounts to faith in myth for the uninitiated. It is the guiding, healing, transformative and holistic power of Eros that brings us this unveiling of universal truths and laws through allegory and myth to be realized within.

Eros/Phanes was an Orphic primordial deity acknowledged by the Greeks, Gnostics, Hermeticists, and alchemists as revealed in the book Eros and Magic in the Renaissance by loan P. Couliano. On pages 38-39, he writes about Eros:

Wherever Eros is at issue, so is desire. Where desire is at issue, so is its appeasement. That applies to Dr. Freud as much as to the theoreticians of love in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, with one exception: the latter, sometimes revealing amazing knowledge through their freedom and candor with regard to human sexuality, nevertheless grant the existence of other forms of satisfaction of desire. Indeed, Eros, being by nature spiritual, hence located at an intermediate level between the soul and the body, the intelligential world and the sensory world, it can lean toward one or the other of those cosmic regions. But, given that desire is the pursuit of a phantasm and that the phantasm itself belongs to a world, the imaginary world—the mundus imaginalis whose loftiness Henry Corbin has so well described without dealing with its penumbra—there is also a third possibility, namely that Eros burns away altogether in a phantasmic sphere.

The spiritual Eros functioning anagogically: that is what Dante propounds, as R. Klein has so well demonstrated the natural love that descends to the body: that is the experience of many writers of the school of Boccaccio, rediscovered in Freudian psychoanalysis with the stubborn intent of reducing to a single factor the multitudinous manifestations of Eros. It goes without saying that those two traditions have one point in common: the recognition, if not of the nature of Eros, at least of its phantasmic techniques. For all parties, the preliminaries of desire consist in setting up a phantasm within the subject. For some, this phantasm will have the capacity to awaken their allayed desire, to propel and accompany them on their trip through the intelligential cosmos. This will become a heroic passion ending in an ecstatic fusion of the hunter and the object of his hunt—according to an image employed by Ficino and later revived by Giordano Bruno. For others, the phantasm will only point to a painful and urgent need for a physical release which increases in proportion as its fulfillment is postponed.

The New Thought movement was originally known by many other names, such as Christian Science and Mental Science–starting in the late 19th century. It is a popularized form of self-help psychology, relying on principles such as mind-over-matter and the law of attraction. This is the basis of The Secret of the early 2000’s. Carl Jung is also relevant to this topic since he teaches something called the “Active Imagination.” In New Thought philosophy, popularized by the Kybalion, the gates of your mind are the most important responsibility one can maintain. Like many other self-help gurus, the subconscious of one’s mind is the chief factor that determines one’s quality of life. For those conditions to be relatively favorable to that person, one must follow through their self-commandments and pursue what Marcelino Ficino calls self-hypnosis (pp. 107-108).

Another essential transformation undergone by Eros from Ficino to Bruno concerns the role assigned to the manipulator in the production or reduction of erotic relationships. Though aware of the syndrome amor hereos and its fatal consequences and of the physician’s importance in curing it, Ficino neglects the aspect of the production of Eros, whose causes he considers transcendental. On the other hand, Bruno concerns himself particularly with the possibility of erotic manipulation of the individual and the masses. Ficino describes the phenomenon of hypnosis that occurs spontaneously during the natural manifestation of the emotion of love; Bruno concerns himself particularly with directed hypnosis, active and voluntary, upon an individual or collective subject—hypnosis whose rules of production trace those of spontaneous love. It involves profound awareness and intuition, a close examination of the subject’s unconscious (or subconscious) to extract shameful “weaknesses”: the means by which the subject may be “bound,” manipulated, hypnotized, put in a state of manageability.

This “psychic” method is used not only in magic but also in medicine, whose success depends primarily not on the efficacy of remedies but rather on the patient’s confidence in the healer. So also is religion a phenomenon of collective hypnosis practiced by a prophet on a group of individuals. The founder of a religion is, in a way, a transcendent instrument, for he does not act in pursuit of egotistical ends. The condition for his success lies in creating an atmosphere in which his collective subject becomes manageable, a subject he renders capable of total self-sacrifice. A religion once instituted, can endure only by the active control it exercises over the education of individuals, a control that must also be repressive in order to prevent the individual from losing his state of depersonalization or becoming capable of being reprogrammed. The same criterion, of course, applies to the promotion of an individual in the religious hierarchy.

While the Kybalion is said to espouse Hermetic theology, it actually has very little to do with it as classically defined in material seen in the Corpus Hermeticum. It is essentially Theosophy and New Thought cobbled together only to be passed off as Hermetic teaching by its purported true author William Walker Atkinson–the true face behind the “Three Initiates”. That being said, there are still fundamental truths to what it discusses. Many magicians consider the Kybalion to be the foundation and starting point to all magical operations. That being said there are fundamental differences between the two sources. At the site Arnemancy, it tells us about these crucial differences:

The fundamental differences in these two approaches to divinity are starkly different. While both embrace a form of pantheism, THE ALL remains unknowably distant in The Kybalion, while in the Hermetica, full knowledge of God is the ultimate goal of the initiate. It is difficult to reconcile this important divide. However, the Hermetica leaves room for multiple interpretations of the divine. As the Hermetic initiate moves between the optimistic monist and pessimistic dualist, perhaps there is room to also contemplate an unknowable, unreachable force that not only encompasses the entirety of the Cosmos, but may not be considered divine at all.

In Nicholas E. Chapel’s The Kybalion’s New Clothes: An Early 20th Century Text’s Dubious Association with Hermeticism, he tells us more about the backstory of the Kybalion.

The false pretension of The Kybalion’s antiquity extends even to the name of the text itself. The word “Kybalion” takes the form of a Greek noun, but has no meaning in that language or any other. It is possible that the name was constructed with a similarity in mind to the word Kabbalah, and others have speculated that it was inspired by the Graeco-Roman goddess Cybele (Gk. Kubelē), but as Deslippe points out “the lack of any correspondence or reference to either of them within The Kybalion suggests that if anything these are nothing more than coincidence.”

Originally known under many names, including Mental Science, Christian Science, and Mind Cure, before crystallizing under the overarching name of “New Thought” in the 1890s, the New Thought was fundamentally a “popular American self-help psychology” originating in the 1870s that promised mastery through self-discipline. In 1889, with the advent of William Juvenal Colville’s The Spiritual Science of Health and Healing, the therapies associated with the New Thought became spiritualized “in a manner typical of believers in mediumship or spiritism.” Thus, while hitherto a scientific-spiritual doctrine, New Thought thereafter forged its spiritual roots in American Mesmerism.

The rest of the article actually connects the Kybalion with the Hermetic material in complimentary terms, surprisingly. For those who are seeking more money and cash flow in their lives, there are several factors to consider. For self-help guru’s like Bob Proctor, self-hypnosis is the key factor to success. Proctor said he was once deep in debt with little income. But one day he came across a book from Napoleon Hill who wrote the book “Think and Grow Rich” and his life instantly changed. He also speaks of 11 forgotten laws, connecting to the Kybalion, that also leads to what he calls “paradigm shifts.”

  1. The Law of Thinking
  2. The Law of Supply
  3. The Law of Attraction
  4. The Law of Receiving
  5. The Law of Increase
  6. The Law of Compensation
  7. The Law of Non-Resistance
  8. The Law of Forgiveness
  9. The Law of Sacrifice
  10. The Law of Obedience
  11. The Law of Success

The Kybalion likewise has similar laws listed in its material, except they’re seven. Perhaps Proctor’s laws are simply just divided, offshoot principles from the following seven principles. The number seven is also especially important in astrology and astrotheology as seen in the Bible and in occultism. The Law of Attraction is mainly based on the Law of Vibration.

  1. The Principle of Mentalism
  2. The Principle of Correspondence
  3. The Principle of Vibration
  4. The Principle of Polarity
  5. The Principle of Rhythm
  6. The Principle of Cause and Effect
  7. The Principle of Gender

I’ve also been watching a series of videos from Frater Xavier on the YouTube channel MindandMagick. Obviously, while this is a magically and occult-oriented channel, the advice Frater Xavier in many of his videos, I think are invaluable–particularly the ones listed below:

Frater Xavier is, of course, a magician and actively involved in ceremonial ritual magic, much of which I am not personally invested in. He is also a big proponent for the Middle Pillar exercise. Please see The Middle Pillar by Israel Regardie for more details and background on it. The ultimate purpose for the practitioner to use the Middle Pillar is said to manifest a subtle body of Light and to promote balance in one’s mind, body and psychic centers. Israel Regardie was also a student and secretary of Aleister Crowley, by the way. Mark Stavish also connects Eros to the astral body, as well.

What does any have anything to do with the daimon Eros? A lot of things as it turns out. Eros is essentially the love of attraction, magnetism, seduction, and sensation. It is also the love of the Holy Spirit and the Lower Self. This is the key to all magic and transmutation. I’ve also written on Eros before on this site as well.

Plato, in his Symposium, discusses the fundamental difference between earthly love and the heavenly love later personified by Jesus Christ. Eros plays many roles in the philosophical experience. In the Speech of Aristophanes of the Symposium, 189a-193d, Eros is depicted as a healer. Aristophanes tells us that the human race was originally three sex: double-male, double-female, male-female. When the gods recognized humans as a threat to their power, Zeus weakened humans by separating the halves with his thunderbolt. Ever since, the halves have been searching for the other half, as we see in homosexuality, lesbianism, and heterosexuality. These sexual orientations actually have a connection to the primordial human element in Platonic philosophy. The worship of Eros is said to bring healing in man and eternal happiness through the reunion of these separated halves.

This idea is developed further in Christianity, with the concept of the Bridal Chamber, as found in Paul’s writings, but further emphasized in Valentinian and Sophianic forms of Christian mysticism. The Bridal Chamber is also mentioned in the Akathist Hymn to the Theotokos.

You are a fortress protecting all virgins, O Theotokos and Virgin; for the Master of heaven and earth prepared you, O Immaculate One, and dwelt in your womb, and taught all to cry out to you:

Rejoice, Pillar of virginity. Rejoice, Gate of salvation.

Rejoice, Leader of spiritual restoration. Rejoice, Bestower of divine goodness.

Rejoice, for you regenerated those conceived in shame. Rejoice, for you gave guidance to the thoughtless.

Rejoice, you who abolished the corrupter of hearts. Rejoice, you who gave birth to the Sower of chastity.

Rejoice, bridal Chamber of a seedless marriage. Rejoice, you who joined the faithful to the Lord.

Rejoice, fair Nursing-mother of virgins. Rejoice, bridal Escort of holy souls.

Eros is also depicted as the most beautiful and youngest of the gods. He held enough wisdom and courage to grant mankind many blessings including beauty, goodness, peace, friendship, courtesy, and good fellowship. Eros is, however, more notably called “the Great Daemon” by Ditoma in the Symposium. He is also a companion of Aphrodite and originates from Poros, who is a real god, whereas in the Phaedrus Plato calls Eros himself a god because he is an uplifting life force.

“What then is Love?” I asked; “Is he mortal?” “No.” “What then?”

“As in the former instance, he is neither mortal nor immortal, but in a mean between the two.”

“What is he, Diotima?”

“He is a great spirit (daimon), and like all spirits he is intermediate between the divine and the mortal.”

“And what,” I said, “is his power?” “He interprets,” she replied, “between gods and men, conveying and taking across to the gods the prayers and sacrifices of men, and to men the commands and replies of the gods; he is the mediator who spans the chasm which divides them, and therefore in him all is bound together, and through him the arts of the prophet and the priest, their sacrifices and mysteries and charms, and all, prophecy and incantation, find their way. For God mingles not with man; but through Love. all the intercourse, and converse of god with man, whether awake or asleep, is carried on. The wisdom which understands this is spiritual; all other wisdom, such as that of arts and handicrafts, is mean and vulgar. Now these spirits or intermediate powers are many and diverse, and one of them is Love.

Next, Diotima tells us about Eros’ back story.

“And who,” I said, “was his father, and who his mother?”

“The tale,” she said, “will take time; nevertheless I will tell you. On the birthday of Aphrodite there was a feast of the gods, at which the god Poros or Plenty, who is the son of Metis or Discretion, was one of the guests. When the feast was over, Penia or Poverty, as the manner is on such occasions, came about the doors to beg. Now Plenty who was the worse for nectar (there was no wine in those days), went into the garden of Zeus and fell into a heavy sleep, and Poverty considering her own straitened circumstances, plotted to have a child by him, and accordingly she lay down at his side and conceived love, who partly because he is naturally a lover of the beautiful, and because Aphrodite is herself beautiful, and also because he was born on her birthday, is her follower and attendant.

And as his parentage is, so also are his fortunes. In the first place he is always poor, and anything but tender and fair, as the many imagine him; and he is rough and squalid, and has no shoes, nor a house to dwell in; on the bare earth exposed he lies under the open heaven, in-the streets, or at the doors of houses, taking his rest; and like his mother he is always in distress. Like his father too, whom he also partly resembles, he is always plotting against the fair and good; he is bold, enterprising, strong, a mighty hunter, always weaving some intrigue or other, keen in the pursuit of wisdom, fertile in resources; a philosopher at all times, terrible as an enchanter, sorcerer, sophist. He is by nature neither mortal nor immortal, but alive and flourishing at one moment when he is in plenty, and dead at another moment, and again alive by reason of his father’s nature. But that which is always flowing in is always flowing out, and so he is never in want and never in wealth; and, further, he is in a mean between ignorance and knowledge. The truth of the matter is this: No god is a philosopher. or seeker after wisdom, for he is wise already; nor does any man who is wise seek after wisdom. Neither do the ignorant seek after Wisdom.

Moreover, Eros is called a magician by Plato. This matches the idea that the Greek philosophers were often confused as magicians much like prophets, priest-kings and messiahs are often confused to connect to the magician. Here is what I wrote about the subject in a paper for The Gnostic #6 by Andrew Philip Smith, The Gods of Imagination: Alchemy, Magic, and the Quintessence:

The aim of theurgy is to make the soul immortal or divine. In a sense, theurgy has a strong link to the imagination. The theurgist aims toward perfecting their “craft” or “performance” in order to basically change the internal reality, which corresponds directly with the external; the outer; and the manifest. A magician can also be defined in one sense as a “hero.” In Greek, “heros” meant a “demi-god,” used in many ways at different times as a figure who gains divinity after a violent death or a mortal who is the offspring of a god and a mortal. A “daimon” was also considered to be the same as a demi-god because such beings were intermediate forces between the gods and the mortal realm in Greek myth and Platonic philosophy.

The “hero” is very similar to the idea of the “perfected” stone of philosophy, being the offspring of mortal and immortal elements. According to Iamblichus, the hero is a supernatural agent among the superior classes of beings that bridge the gap between the various kinds of gods and mankind, which also consists of archangels, angels, daimons and pure souls. This is all comparable to how Eros, an intermediary daimon, is referred to as a magician by Plato. “His father’s side, for its part, makes him a schemer after the beautiful and good, courageous, impetuous, and intense, a clever hunter, always weaving new devices, both passionate for wisdom and resourceful in looking for it, philosophizing through all his life, a clever magician, sorcerer, and sophist.”

The video above goes into the connections between Eros and magic, as well. Plato and Socrates were at one point confused as magicians who tapped into the holistic power of Eros, as the presenter reveals. While Eros is a highly-positive symbol, it nonetheless also has a shadow side to it as Nicolas and Zeena Schreck write in Demons of the Flesh.

We begin by impassively examining sex, the motor that drives the sinister current, as the energy that holds humanity in its thrall. In our view, sex is simply a force of surpassing power, similar to radioactivity or electricity. Much like these other energy sources, Eros cannot be objectively described as positive or negative – such assessments depend entirely on circumstance and the perspective of the observer. Those who condemn it as depraved and degrading are as misguided as their opposite number who sing the praises of the orgasm as the greatest good in the universe. In the West, centuries of relentless Christian abomination of the flesh have finally yielded 346 to a somewhat more objective understanding of sexuality. However, the realization that Eros is not a shameful Satanic agent of sin does not mean that sexuality should be fatuously romanticized either. Eros, like all truly numinous forces, surpasses both good and evil and is ultimately neutral. The left-hand sex magician who wishes to marshal this notoriously unpredictable power to his or her own desires must also examine the abyss of the shadow side of Eros as well as its more beneficent aspects.

The whole pathway to initiation is connected with Eros and the divine sympathies. The mere fact that philosophers were confused with magicians is no coincidence. People like Iamblichus further blur the line since he was a dedicated pagan theurgist who also worked with the daemons as Dr. Jeffrey Kotyk reports in Neoplatonic Cosmology and Astral Magic.

Daimons each fall under a hierarchy that stretches up to one of the archons. All activities in the sublunar world (i.e., Earth) are under the direction or co-direction of these hierarchies. The angels and heroes also have their roles in serving their divine hierarchies. Angels and archangels form a class above that of the daimons. This angelic class generally does not descend into generation (our material world), but the daimons do.

Some thinkers, such as Plotinus, believed that one ought to escape the influence of daimons in order to transcend fate and ascend to a permanently divine state beyond the material world. Others, such as Iamblichus, sought to proactively work with them and modify reality according to one’s will, which is connected to the magical practice of theurgy, a ritual framework designed to bring about ascension of the person into the higher realms.

The issue with daimons is that they compel the cosmic design to continue unfolding, which is called generation, i.e., the natural world in which we find ourselves with all its disorder and suffering. Animal instinct, for instance, is under the daimonic domain. Animals and one half of humans (according to Iamblichus) are governed by instinct. This instinct is embedded in beings by design and reflects a principle of a higher hypercosmic design (that is to say, everything in material reality is an expression of the divine forms). The faculty of reason, which human nature possesses as its other half, is divine, and so it is through reason that one can become a fully autonomous being, rather than simply obeying that which has been fated, which is characterized by the natural passions we experience, as well as normal mortal life.

The laws of sympathetic magic indeed connect to the laws of attraction and the philosophy of Eros. In fact, the four elements of nature were also animated by Eros and Eris (Strife), according to Empedocles as one alchemy website explains.

According to Empedocles, Fire and Air are “outwardly reaching” elements, reaching up and out, whereas Earth and Water turn inward and downward. In his view, and that of later alchemists, the elements are not only material substances but also spiritual essences. To show their archetypal power, Empedocles associated each element with a god. “Hera rules the fruitful earth,” he wrote. “Hades the central fire, Zeus the luminescent air, and Persephone the mollifying water.”

The elements were animated through the interaction of two great living energies Empedocles called Love and Strife (Eros and Eris). Love he associated with the goddess Aphrodite, and Strife with the god of war, Ares. This simple view explained nearly every aspect of the world of the Greeks. Love and Strife were primordial gods who predated the gods of Olympus. This idea is very much like the Eastern tradition Yin and Yang, with Yin being the passive feminine energy of Love and Yang being the aggressive masculine energy of Strife. Egyptian alchemists associated the feminine (Love) energy with the Moon and masculine (Strife) energy with the Sun, while European alchemists associated the feminine energy with the Queen and the masculine energy with the King.

On a side note, Jesus Christ is compared to one’s imagination by Neville Goodard called “God Speaks to Man”–a truly solipsistic take on Christianity if I ever saw one. However, he is not far off since the subconscious is a gateway of initiation between our daily consciousness and the divine. The trick is, however, to reprogram the subconscious mind by affirmations, repetitions, active imagination, and even magical rituals. The result will that you will eventually embody what you wish to be, in the now, as if it has already happened. This is not so dissimilar to acting on stage. The will is the embodiment, just as Christ is the embodiment of the will of God.

If you see a Jesus Christ as other than your own wonderful Human Imagination, you have made a graven image. But when you find the true Christ – called the Rock – and start building on it, no rumors or arguments can knock your house down. Build on the sand and your house will slip away, but if you create your world believing in your own wonderful Human Imagination – called Jesus Christ – nothing will destroy it.

Your Imagination is Christ, dreaming in you and creating your world. Feed him noble thoughts. Become selective and dare to assume something wonderful for yourself. Our newspapers are telling us how to transcend death and live to be one hundred, adding years to life – yet no one thinks of adding life to years!

Richard, Duc de Palatine, a Gnostic Bishop who consecrated Stephen Hoeller of the Eclessia Gnostica, has similar things to say as well as found in The Divine Power of Man.

Man has within himself that Eternal Power. It is up to you to bring forth the God-Head within yourself. Let Me try to show you again. We have a screen, a white screen, and behind it we have a space and a very bright spotlight. We have a white screen and we have actors performing upon the stage, coming between the light and the screen so that their shadows are cast upon the screen, but it is the actor who is the real person who causes the shadows to be cast. You as human beings have identified yourselves with the shadows, those shadows which are constantly changing and constantly come and go. Yet the light behind the actor is simply your Divine Consciousness which casts Its shadow upon this screen of earthly existence and that the POWER behind and in you is your Divine Soul. Then there is nothing on this earth which you cannot have. You will perform what are commonly termed miracles but which are simply the correct understanding and application of the Laws of Nature and of the Power latent within man.

Carl Jung also views Christ as a symbol of the self as the video below will tell you in depth.

The ultimate aim of Eros is what Ion Cullianu (p. 67) is to reclaim our divine wings.

First of all, the heroic Eros establishes its positive existence in contrast to the natural Eros,” which attracts toward procreation.” Its object is a woman; the object of the other kind is God. The same dichotomy separates it from the melancholic state of mind: “It is not an atrabilious frenzy . . . but heat generated in the soul by the intelligential sun, and a divine impetus (impeto) that makes it grow wing״) II, pp. 333-34)—an allusion to the myth of Phaedrus and to the wings of the soul, which, damaged by the catastrophic event of our entry into the world, could only be recovered by a few chosen people, in particular, philosophers. In sum, this form of erotic enthusiasm “has as its main goal grace of spirit and control of passion, not corporeal beauty”) II, p. 330).

In the following posts, we will explore these ideas, concepts, and praxis in more detail.

P.S. I am still editing my upcoming manuscript and wish to publish The Sun Lady Unveiled by late summer. Thanks!

Io Saturnalia! Synchronos Returns

In my upcoming book The Sun Lady Unveiled, I discuss many connections that intertwine with Revelation 12 and the rest of the Apocalypse. There is some information that I wanted to explore but did not have the time to devote to it in the book–until now.

Warning: Controversial Research Up Ahead!

The King of Saturnalia

As the festivities and gift-giving for Saturnalia begins, the synchronicities add up to this holiday. For the Romans, Saturnalia was a time of remembrance of a former aeon or epoch of time of that being the Golden Age when ruled over by Saturn. This was commemorated in the five day period between December 25 and January 1. This was a time outside of time, and an occasion for freedom from the constraints of the world, signaled by the return of Sol Invictus. Saturnalia was celebrated with indulgence as a festival for total liberty and freedom where no authority, wars, and submission were recognized during this sacred period. This holiday also included role reversals of master and slave in banquets, gift-giving, gambling, and an appointment of a “king” of Saturnalia, as a “lord of misrule” where the appointed temporary emperor would give absurd commands to his subjects to create a state of chaos until he is ritually sacrificed in honor of the gods. These freed slaves wore a distinctive floppy cap at Saturnalia known as a pileus or cap of liberty, which is where Santa’s hat comes from. The custom of slaves and masters swapping places made the pileus the customary hardware during the Saturnalia festivities. The rejoicing of Saturnalia ended between December 23 and January 1. Over at Antiquitatem, the author tells us more about this festival:

In many cultures the birth of the New Year is associated with the birth of a divine child, with the birth of a sun god. Moreover, the Roman calendar fixed the dates of the numerous religious festivals of the inhabitants of Latium in honor of their gods. In December, they celebrated several parties which are reflected in the current calendar precisely in our Christmas party.

In fact, during the Roman Empire three parties were held in December and they were simultaneous in some of the seven days when they were celebrated: the Saturnalia, the Opalia and Sigillaria. The “sigillaria” are so called from sigilla, or oscilla, small ceramic figures. At this party, trading posts with ceramic figures to give children away as toys were mounted like a fashion market.

These small clay images are memories of ancient sacrificial rituals in which the victim was replaced by the clay figurine. In these Roman celebrations thus we find different elements of our current Christmas and Carnival.

In late December, they especially celebrated the “Saturnalia”, the feast of Saturn, god to whom they attributed the introduction of agriculture and civilized life. Saturn is one of the ancient gods of Latium and his worship and celebration seems to have fallen and reborn several times during the Latin history.

Saturnalia’s connection with Christianity is also covered in the same article.

In the early centuries of Christianity, the birth of Jesus and his baptism took place on the 6th of January, Epiphany Day (from the Greek επιφάνεια which means: “manifestation, apparition”) and it is still held on that date in the Eastern Orthodox Church.

In the West the sixth day of January we celebrate the curious feast of “The three Wise Men”, who according to Saint Matthew’s gospel came to offer their gifts to the baby Jesus, who had just been born in Judea. To remember and imitate it, toys and many other kinds of presents are given to children on the 6th of January in some countries like Spain.

The first written reference to Epiphany as a Christian feast appears in the year 361 in Ammianus Marcellinus, XXI, 2.5:

“And in order temporarily to conceal this (that he had renounced Christianity), on the day of the festival which the Christians celebrate in the month of January and call the Epiphany, he went to their church, and departed after offering a prayer to their deity in the usual manner.”

(Ammianus Marcellinus, Rerum Gestarum John C. Rolfe, Ph.D., Litt.D., Ed.)

In its Latin version:

“Et ut haec interim celarentur, feriarum die, quem celebrantes mense Ianuario Christiani Epiphania dictitant, progressus in eorum ecclesiam, sollemniter numine orato discessit.

And Epiphanius of Salamis also concretes in his Panarion, LI, 27, 4 that the birth of Christ was on January 6th:

(…) the Epiphany of the Lord, January 5th, at the dawn of January 6th, and the eleventh day of the Egyptian month Tybi.

Indeed, Jesus was a demigod born of a virgin who was worshiped as a divine child by Zoroastrian astrologers who offered him gold and incense. His birth is celebrated during the winter solstice on the very same date that Saturnalia and Solis Invicti was observed on the Roman calendar. Jesus was crucified, buried, and resurrected during the vernal equinox. He had 12 disciples in accordance with the 12 zodiacal signs. He had 72 disciples representing the 72 disciples representing the 72 classical nations. His ministry lasted 3 and a half years (7 divided by two).

For the Neo-Platonic philosopher Porphyry, Saturnalia represented the liberation of souls to be absorbed into the Good from the slavery of matter and Fate, as he reveals in On The Cave of Nymphs. Porphyry claimed that Mithras is actually the Demiurge and “lord of generation” much like Saturn is considered the same by the Peratic Gnostics as Hippolytus claims.

Theologists therefore assert, that_these two gates are Cancer and Capricorn; but Plato calls them entrances. And of these, theologists say, that Cancer is the gate through which souls descend; but Capricorn that through which they ascend. Cancer is indeed northern, and adapted to descent; but Capricorn is southern, and adapted to ascent (note 12). The northern parts, likewise, pertain to souls descending into generation. And the gates of the cavern which are turned to the north are rightly said to be pervious to the descent of men; but the southern gates are not the avenues of the Gods, but of souls ascending to the Gods. On this account, the poet does not say that they are the avenues of the Gods, but of immortals; this appellation being also common to our souls, which are per se, or essentially, immortal. It is said that Parmenides mentions these two gates in his treatise “On the Nature of Things”, as likewise that they are not unknown to the Romans and Egyptians.

,,,

But these places are adapted to souls descending into generation, and afterwards separating themselves from it. Hence, a place near to the equinoctial circle was assigned to Mithra as an appropriate seat. And on this account he bears the sword of Aries, which is a martial sign. He is likewise carried in the Bull, which is the sign of Venus. For Mithra. as well as the Bull, is the Demiurgus and lord of generation (note 13).

In the Christian historian and Theologian Sextus Julius Africanus’ Narrative of Events Happening in Persia on the Birth of Christ, it relates vaguely to the journey of the Zoroastrian Magi from the East. Starting in a temple to Juno in Persia built by King Cyrus, it includes an account of arguing statues, a prophecy about a king of the Jews, the pagan god Dionysus, and a trip to Jerusalem to visit the infant Jesus and Mary. The descriptions of Mary and her son Jesus (as the queen of heaven and Jupiter), however, are far more interesting, however, since they appear to be more pagan than Christian.

As we look at the Talmudic writings of the Avodah Zarah 8a, it tells us that Saturnalia was actually Jewish in its origin (depending on your viewpoint). It also has a very negative view towards Christianity and Christians, much like the rest of the Babylonian Talmud. It tells us that Adam thought that since the days were becoming shorter, his sin in the Garden is what caused creation to return back to a state of chaos and darkness.

With regard to the dates of these festivals, the Sages taught: When Adam the first man saw that the day was progressively diminishing, as the days become shorter from the autumnal equinox until the winter solstice, he did not yet know that this is a normal phenomenon, and therefore he said: Woe is me; perhaps because I sinned the world is becoming dark around me and will ultimately return to the primordial state of chaos and disorder. And this is the death that was sentenced upon me from Heaven, as it is written: “And to dust shall you return” (Genesis 3:19). He arose and spent eight days in fasting and in prayer.

Once he saw that the season of Tevet, i.e., the winter solstice, had arrived, and saw that the day was progressively lengthening after the solstice, he said: Clearly, the days become shorter and then longer, and this is the order of the world. He went and observed a festival for eight days. Upon the next year, he observed both these eight days on which he had fasted on the previous year, and these eight days of his celebration, as days of festivities. He, Adam, established these festivals for the sake of Heaven, but they, the gentiles of later generations, established them for the sake of idol worship.

In Timothy Chilman’s The Christmas Conspiracy, he tells us more about this festival and its connections between Mithraism and Christianity.

The Saturnalia came between the other agricultural festivals of the Consualia and the Opalia. The Consualia coincided with the opening of granaries and honored Consus, god of the granary. The Opalia honored Ops, Saturn’s wife, who was linked to the fruits of the earth and is what we now call “Mother Nature.” Other festivals around this time were Dies Juvenalis— the Coming of Age for Young Men—and Janus Day. Juventas was the god of male youth and the two-faced Janus was that of beginnings and gates. The last god commemorated was Mithras, whose religion started in Persia in the 15th century BCE. “Mitra” meant “sun” or “friend,” and Mithras was a sun god who merged with the Roman sun god Sol Invictus, himself a Syrian creation. Mithras was worshiped by the military and upper classes of Rome. The Roman Emperor claimed to be an incarnation of this god, and Mithraism eventually became the official, main religion of the confusingly polytheist Roman Empire. Mithras was born of a virgin on December 25th, the date that became Dies Natalis Solis Invicti—the Nativity of the Invincible Sun. Mithras had twelve followers, promised immortality, refrained from sexual intercourse, performed miracles, and rose again three days after dying to redeem mankind. Followers of Mithras marked his passing with a sacred meal of bread and wine: The bread represented the flesh of Mithras and the wine, his blood.

Chilman tells us more about the Lord of Misrule as well:

The general public also had a Lord of Misrule. The winter solstice marked the death and rebirth of the sun king Sol Invictus. Instead of killing a real monarch, a Lord of Misrule was appointed for Saturnalia, usually a criminal or slave. He was given royal robes and feathers or ass ears. He was honored as a true king until the end of the festival, whereupon he was killed on the altar of Saturn. The mocking (“mock-king”) of Jesus by Roman soldiers in the run-up to his crucifixion would seem to have been inspired by this.

Emancipated slaves wore a felt cap called a “pilleus,” but during the Saturnalia, everyone wore them. The ideal party had an attendance of “more than the graces” (three) but “less than the Muses” (nine).

The feet of the statue of Saturn in the Roman Forum were normally bound but were untied over Saturnalia. Punishments were suspended and wars had to wait until later. This behavior carried down to the level of individuals, who put grudges aside and did not chastise their slaves for the duration.

In the book Inconsistencies in Greek and Roman Religion, Volume 2: Transition and Reversal in Myth and Ritual by Henk Versnel, he writes that the saying “Io Saturnalia” was a greeting that a slave would say to his master, in their roles reversed, among other situations. The same author tells us more about Saturn:

A majority of scholars agree that Saturn must at some time have been a chthonic deity, somehow connected with agriculture, and more specifically with the corn harvest. According to some of them his chthonic nature involved more gloomy aspects as well: connections with death and the underworld.

Henk Versnel also correctly associates Saturn with the sower and the end of such sowing with the sickle being used for the harvest in the fall/winter months. This is very much connected to the Mithriac Sator Square in ritual magic and the Chi-Rho symbol of Orthodox Christianity–both of which connects to Saturn/Chronos (see the videos below). Saturn’s consort, Ops Consiva, also ruled over the corn harvest which typically happened in August. The Orphic version of Chronos, being the embodiment of time in pre-Socratic literature, was also depicted as a serpent with three heads–those of a man, a lion, and a bull–reminding us of the Gnostic depictions of the Demiurge along with the Biblical depictions of the tetramorphs. He and his consort Ananke (Inevitability), circled the world primal egg in their coils and split it apart to form the ordered universe of earth, sea, and sky, much like the Gnostic Ouroboros.

Phanes/Eros.

This is, of course, reminiscent of the Orphic myths of the Hermaphroditic Phanes. In the Orphic cosmology, the unaging Chronos produced Aether and Chaos and made a silvery egg in the Divine Aether. It produced the Hermaphroditic god Phanes, who gave birth to the first generation of gods and is the ultimate creator of the cosmos. Pherecydes of Syros in his now lost Heptamychos (the seven recesses), around the 6th century, claimed that there were three eternal principles: Chronos, Zas (Zeus), and Cthonie (the Chthonic). The semen of Chronos was placed in recesses of matter and produced the first generation of the gods.

Chronos was also depicted in Greco-Roman mosaics as a man turning the Zodiac Wheel, much like Aion, the god of Eternal Time. Chronos, however, is usually depicted as an old man with a gray or white beard. Some of the current English words have their etymological roots in kronos/chronos such as chronology, chronometer, chronic, anachronism, and chronicle. The word synchronicity is also connected as well–hence the title. The link between Chronos and chronology will be made evident soon in another post.

Neil Hague, the artist of many covers of David Icke’s books, also has this to say on the Lord of Misrule, in his article Merry Saturnalia.

The Lord of Misrule was generally a peasant or sub-deacon appointed to be in charge of Christmas revelries, which often included drunkenness and ‘wild partying’, in the pagan tradition of Saturnalia. Sounds like every town in the UK to me? The Roman emperor Nero played the role of Saturnalia in his youth. Whereas the first emperor Augustus celebrated the ‘Golden Age of Saturn’ it was eventually lost.

Saturnalia and misrule makes a ‘mockery of a world’ in which law was determined by one man and the traditional social and political networks are reduced to the power of the emperor over his subjects. In general terms, Saturnalia was the celebration of the longing for Saturn to reign again, as in ancient times. The donkey or Ass was another symbol of misrule and ‘mockery of law and order’, ‘title and kingship’. In Ancient Egypt Seth, the enemy of Osiris (his brother) had the image of a donkey. That’s why Apuleius in his Golden Ass describes a great metamorphosis, the transformation of Lucius to a donkey and his way back – spiritual evolution towards the human being. Jesus also was said to ride into Jerusalem on a donkey.

The Lord of Misrule is placed on an Ass (or depicted as one) as a symbol of the King of Saturnalia. He rides the donkey facing backwards as a symbol of ‘inversion’ at this time of year.

In this case donkey represents sexuality, instincts, sensuality, ignorance. A red donkey was said to be one of the dangerous creatures that the soul met in its journey after death – possibly an archon of sorts? The Ass and the Lord of Misrule go together at both Saturnalia (Christmas) and Ostara (Easter).

According to the anthropologist James Frazer in his book The New Golden Bough, he says there was a darker side [and the rest] to the Saturnalia festival. In Durostorum on the Danube (modern Silistra), Roman soldiers would choose a man from among them to be the Lord of Misrule for thirty days. At the end of those thirty days, his throat was cut on the altar of Saturn. Similar origins of the British Lord of Misrule, as a ‘sacrificial king’ (a temporary king, as Frazer puts it) who was later put to death for the benefit of all, have also been recorded. See the movie The Wicker Man starring the late Lord of Misrule himself – Christopher Lee. I once stood next to Lee at a Eurostar waiting area over a decade ago and he seemed a very ‘strange’ man to me.

The sordid and sinister rituals that are hinted at in the Kubrick movie Eye’s Wide Shut also happen at Christmas. Note the Sun (Saturn) Star featuring in the Illuminati-style Elite parties early on in the film. Sex is a big part of Saturnalia and of course it plays a big part in Kubrick’s film too.

Over at the Wikipedia entry of the Lord of Misrule, it discusses the Christian Church’s response to this dark pagan tradition:

On 1 January, AD 400, the bishop Asterius of Amasea in Pontus (modern Amasya, Turkey) preached a sermon against the Feast of Calends (“this foolish and harmful delight”) that describes the role of the mock king in Late Antiquity. The New Year’s feast included children arriving at each doorstep, exchanging their gifts for reward:

This festival teaches even the little children, artless and simple, to be greedy, and accustoms them to go from house to house and to offer novel gifts, fruits covered with silver tinsel. For these they receive, in return, gifts double their value, and thus the tender minds of the young begin to be impressed with that which is commercial and sordid.

— Asterius, in “Oratio 4: Adversus Kalendarum Festum”

It contrasted with the Christian celebration held, not by chance, on the adjoining day:

We celebrate the birth of Christ, since at this time God manifested himself in the flesh. We celebrate the Feast of Lights (Epiphany), since by the forgiveness of our sins we are led forth from the dark prison of our former life into a life of light and uprightness.

— Asterius, “Oratio 4”

graffito

The idea of a “lord of misrule” during Saturnalia also reminds us of the Donkey Priest that the Church Fathers mention, including Tertullian. This ass-faced scapegoat messiah connects to Baphomet of the Oriental Templars and the redeemed Gnostic archon, Sabaoth also called the “Lord of Forces” in Gnostic scripture like Hypostasis of the Archons and On The Origin of the World. This donkey god can also be connected to Yahweh/Jehovah as Epiphanius in the Panarion (26:12:1-4), reveals when Gnostics thought that whenever the Jewish high priest would enter the Holy of Holies of the Jerusalem temple to make sacrifice, they would wear little bells so that it would give Yahweh enough time to hide his true form as a donkey god. This same Donkey Priest may also be connected to Typhon-Set of the Egyptians and Greeks, as one website explains:

Three and a half centuries before Christ, Plato expressed his opinion of evil by saying that “there is in matter a blind, refractory force, which resists the will of the Great Artificer.” This blind force, under Christian influx, was made to see and become responsible; it was transformed into Satan!

His identity with Typhon can scarcely be doubted upon reading the account in Job of his appearance with the sons of God, before the Lord. He accuses Job of a readiness to curse the Lord to his face upon sufficient provocation. So Typhon, in the Egyptian Book of the Dead, figures as the accuser. The resemblance extends even to the names, for one of Typhon’s appellations was Seth, or Seph; as Satan, in Hebrew, means an adversary. In Arabic the word is Shatana — to be adverse, to persecute, and Manetho says he had treacherously murdered Osiris and allied himself with the Shemites (the Israelites). This may possibly have originated the fable told by Plutarch, that, from the fight between Horus and Typhon, Typhon, overcome with fright at the mischief he had caused, “fled seven days on an ass, and escaping, begat the boys Ierosolumos and Ioudaios (Jerusalem and Judea).”

Referring to an invocation of Typhon-Seth, Professor Reuvens says that the Egyptians worshipped Typhon under the form of an ass; and according to him Seth “appears gradually among the Semites as the background of their religious consciousness.” The name of the ass in Coptic, AO, is a phonetic of IAO, and hence the animal became a pun-symbol. Thus Satan is a later creation, sprung from the overheated fancy of the Fathers of the Church. By some reverse of fortune, to which the gods are subjected in common with mortals, Typhon-Seth tumbled down from the eminence of the deified son of Adam Kadmon, to the degrading position of a subaltern spirit, a mythical demon—ass.

Dancing With The Devil

For the Medieval Cathars, Rex Mundi (Latin for “King of the World”) was a chaotic god of matter and the irrational world soul, closely related to the Demiurge of Plato and the Gnostics along with Satan of the New Testament. According to the Catholic heresiologist Cosmas the Priest in Discourse against the Bogomils, some Cathars and Bogomils–inspired by the earlier Manichaeans–believed that there was one God who had two sons–one being Christ and the other Lucifer. Lucifer had fashioned the phenomenal world from the elements created by the Good God and placed fallen angelic souls in material bodies. Christ, God’s other son, had come to this earth in the appearance of a man in order to teach the angelic souls how to be reunited with the good God, their creator. This view is similar to the Interrogatio Iohannis, also known as The Secret Supper and The Book of John the Evangelist, which depicts Satan as a Demiurgical figure like Yaldabaoth see in various Gnostic texts, like the Apocryphon of John. It was Satan that tempted the angels Adam and Eve and fell from Paradise and into human bodies.

The Bogomils and Cathars were said to have rejected the Roman Catholic Church and its material sacraments, along with the Old Testament but favored the New Testament as authoritative (especially the Gospel of John). They adopted a strictly ascetic lifestyle, rejected sexual intercourse, and abstained from all meat and wine. They met frequently and prayed together by using the Lord’s Prayer repeatedly much like the Jesus prayer of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and confessed their sins to one another. The Cathars may be connected to another Manichaean group with a similar name, who were the followers of Novatus and were called the Novatians, according to St. Augustine in De Haeresibus xxxviii. They set up various churches around France and surrounding countries in competition with Roman Catholicism before they were completely massacred by Rex Mundi and his agents of darkness in the Catholic Church through the Inquisition and its blood-soaked and fiery hunt to stamp out all heresy.

In the article In Search of a Missing Link: The Bogomils and Zoroastrianism by Ewa Weiling Feldthusen, the author writes how the Bogomils considered the Old Testament, much like Marcion (from many centuries earlier), as a Satanic document, channeled directly from the Devil himself.

The following extracts from Euthymius Zigabenus’ Dogmatic Panoply, whose work itself is a compilation of other accounts added to his own interrogation of a Bogomil leader Basil, who was accused of heresy by Alexius Comnenus in the eleventh century, in Constantinople, are fully comparable to both the first account, The Discourse of the Priest Cosmas Against Bogomils (tenth century, Bulgaria) and to The Secret Book (probably tenth – eleventh centuries, probably Bulgaria). On their attitude towards canonical books, Zigabenus writes:

“They reject all the books of Moses and the God who is described in them […], as being written in accordance with the plan of Satan. […] They accept and honour only seven […]; that is, the Psalter, the sixteen Prophets, the Gospel according to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and the seventh book, the Acts of the Apostles together with the Epistles and the Apocalypse of John the Divine.” (Hamilton,1998:182).

The rejection of the Old Testament was a logical consequence of their assumption of Satanic origin of this scripture, although a letter from around 1045 written by Euthymius of the Periblepton monastery testified that the Bogomils read the entire Bible, and knew its passages by heart in order to act as a true Christians: “I cannot deceive a Christian otherwise than by pretending to be a monk; we call ourselves Christian and appear in every way to act as Christians do, and put forward the holy scriptures as our teaching”. (Hamilton, 1998: 146). Otherwise, the fact that the Bogomils knew the Scriptures perfectly well, and used this knowledge to convince others of the truth of their orthodoxy, which made it difficult to distinguish them from ordinary Orthodox Christians, is mentioned in several polemical scripts using often the well-known rhetorical figure – hiding the wolf under the fleece – about the deceitful Bogomils.

Not only did the Bogomils thought that the Old Testament was Satanic, but they also believed that Satan had the powers of the Demiurge and created a second heaven and a second earth, and a second human race! This sounds a lot like the Expanding Earth theory. Perhaps this is why mysterious seismic activities have been detected as of late. As mentioned earlier, they also believed that Satan and Jesus Christ were brothers as Sons of God much like how the Zurvanists and many other world religions claimed that the Good God created twin, dual gods–one good and one evil.

As concerning the Bogomil explanation of the origin of Satan, Zigabenus reported that:

“They say that the demon whom the saviour called Satan himself is also a son of God the Father, called Satanael; He came before the Son, the Word [Jesus], and is stronger, as befits the first-born. […] Satan is the steward, second to the Father, having the same form and dress as He does, and he sits at His right hand on a throne. […] He was intoxicated by this, and being carried away […] he plotted a rebellion, and having done so, he seized the opportunity to test some of the ministering powers. He said that if they wanted to lessen the load of their service, they should follow him and join him in breaking away from the Father. […] Then to the aforesaid angels who were enticed by the lightening of their burdensome services and other excessive demands, he said:’ I will place my throne upon the clouds, and I will be like unto the Most High’.(Hamilton, 1989:183).

In the subsequent chapter, Zigabenus gives an account concerning the Bogomil cosmological myth, a myth which states that Satanael was cast down from above, and that he was unable to sit upon the waters because the earth did not as yet exist. “But since he had the form and dress of God and possessed the power of the Demiurge to summon the powers which had fallen along with him and to embolden them, he said, ‘Since God made the heaven and the earth, […] I too will make a second heaven, being the second God’”. (Hamilton, 1998: 184).

Afterwards, Satan created the earth in the way described in Genesis.

One must wonder why the Bogomils and Cathars (along with their Gnostic predecessors) considered the Old Testament as the work of demons. Perhaps Thom Stark’s research and Stewart Felker on Israel’s connection with polytheism and child sacrifice could shed some light on this. After all, Moses is depicted as a horned deity (much like Dionysus/Bacchus and of course, the Devil) in Exodus and threw curses and plagues and turned Aaron’s staff into a snake and parted the Red Sea. The Israelite kings and priests practiced divination with an occult device called the Urim and the Thummim while they burned incense and cannabis to Jah. They observed the phases of the moon and the equinoxes during holidays such as Passover. The Jewish prophets made offerings to angels while Solomon was a world renown as the magician par excellence. They sacrificed animals and even children to Jah and erected idolatrous pillars in his honor. They also observed the Chaldean and Babylonian astrological days and worshiped on the Sabbath (Saturn’s Day). The occult is very much ingrained in Judaism, especially the Kabbalah.

In Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh, and Henry Lincoln’s The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail. pp. 46-47, writes more about the Cathars and their beliefs.

The Cathars were also dualists. All Christian thought, of course, can ultimately be seen as dualistic, insisting on a conflict between two opposing principles good and evil, spirit and flesh, higher and lower. But the Cathars carried this dichotomy much further than orthodox Catholicism was prepared to. For the Cathars, men were the swords that spirits fought with, and no one saw the hands. For them, a perpetual war was being waged throughout the whole of creation between two irreconcilable principles -light and darkness, spirit and matter, good and evil. Catholicism posits one supreme God, whose adversary, the Devil, is ultimately inferior to Him.

The Cathars, however, proclaimed the existence not of one god, but of two, with more or less comparable status. One of these gods the ‘good’ one was entirely disincarnate, a being or principle of pure spirit, unsullied by the taint of matter. He was the god of love. But love was deemed wholly incompatible with power; and material creation was a manifestation of power. Therefore, for the Cathars, material creation the world itself was intrinsically evil. All matter was intrinsically evil. The universe, in short, was the handiwork of a ‘usurper god’, the god of evil or, as the Cathars called him, “Rex Mundi’, “King of the World’. Catholicism rests on what might be called an “ethical dualism’. Evil, though issuing ultimately perhaps from the Devil, manifests itself primarily through man and his actions. In contrast, the Cathars maintained a form of “cosmological dualism’, a dualism that pervaded the whole of reality. For the Cathars, this was a basic premise, but their response to it varied from sect to sect. According to some Cathars, the purpose of man’s life on earth was to transcend matter, to renounce perpetually anything connected with the principle of power and thereby to attain union with the principle of love. According to other Cathars, man’s purpose was to reclaim and redeem matter, to spiritualise and transform it.

1 John 5:19 tells us: “And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.” This sounds a lot like the Cathar notion of Rex Mundi. The Gospels and St. Paul also has similar things to say about Rex Mundi.

2 Corinthians 4:4: “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” Matthew 4:1-10 also tells us that Rex Mundi owns the world, just as he did before the regeneration of the world as mentioned in Ezekiel 28:14 and 18 and the eventual fall of Adam and Eve:

Then Jesus was led up of the spirit into the wilderness to the tempted os the devil.

[2] And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

[3] And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

[4] But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

[5] Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

[6] And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

[7] Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

[8] Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

[9] And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

[10] Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Job 2 also tells us that Satan has unlimited access to the Earth that directly connects to the underworld.

[1]Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord.

[2] And the Lord said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

The rest of Job 2 presents Satan as the tempter, but interestingly, he tempts with God’s foreknowledge, and, perhaps even, permission. Isaiah 14:12-15 tells us of course, got a bit too proud, and was kicked off the football team.

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

[13] For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

[14] I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

[15] Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

In Ovid’s Metamorphosis, Lucifer appears as a minor deity: the god of the Morning Star. Jesus Christ is later connected to the morning star as well in Revelation 2:28. Revelation 12, of course, tells us that Michael fought and casts down the great dragon Satan and his angels to earth, in efforts to protect the Sun Lady and the Male Child, much like the Egyptian myths of Isis and Horus, and Typhon-Set. John Milton’s Paradise Lost features Satan uttering this: “To reign is worth ambition though in hell: Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven.”

What is interesting is that in Revelation, the implication is that Satan has been banished to Earth, while Isaiah talks about Lucifer being banished to hell, or the pit. The implication is that Earth is hell. This is further implicated in 1 Enoch, 2 Enoch, The Ascension of Isaiah and the Gospel of Nicodemus, as well, as I explain in my upcoming book, The Sun Lady Unveiled.

One author actually links Rex Mundi with the Grail or Fisher King of the Medieval romances like Parzival/Perceval, in the article Rex Mundi: A Metatronic View of the “King of the World”.

Rex Mundi, the King of the World, is also the Bearer of the Cup of Transfiguration, in which the human being moves through stages of his own duality until he reaches a platform in which he assumes in a specific and dedicated way, the “Wound of the World.” Through this embodiment, he becomes the “Wounded King / Healer” of Grail lore, whose wound is born for the world. Through his glorious act of crucifixion and transfiguration upon the cross of this gnosis which has become his Bodhisattva vow, he heals others who touch his wounds of Light. It is then that the Wounded Healer is transformed into Rex Mundi, for he has now overcome his own creation (the world) to be exalted in the Phoenix Flame of pure Illumination. What sets him free? His becoming (with complete presence) the gnosis that all wounds are only love longing to be illumined in the heart.

The cosmic / world dynamic of Rex Mundi is an important aspect of the “Solar Mysteries”. The Solar Mysteries trace the soul’s development and evolution through the rays of the “Great Solar Cosom”, which is the center of the creative font and from which all sun-stars gain their Presence of Living Light, or what we know in our World Myth as “angelic” beings and realms (which would also include related categories such as the Jinn).

The Light Language streamings which intersect the Adam Kadmon and from whence our humanity is formed, are issued from the constellation of Orion (regardless of from what Star Tribe that particular incarnating soul may originate). Thus, Rex Mundi is very much an “Orion figure” in that he (ie, this universal dynamic) strikes the balance of the Gate of Orion in the universe.

At the Arcane Wiki, it also connects the title of “Rex Mundi” with Persian King Cyrus the Great.

Coincidentally, “King of the World” is also the title given to Cyrus the Great on the Cyrus Cylinder. The cylinder is a piece of Persian propaganda, dating back to 539 BC, which was placed sort of like a time capsule in the foundations of the temple of Marduk in Babylon. It was written in Akkadian cuneiform, not in Latin, so it doesn’t actually call him “Rex Mundi” per se, but academic tradition has none-the-less bestowed the nickname Rex Mundi upon Cyrus the Great. (Additional trivia about the cylinder: In the 1970s the Shah of Iran used the cylinder as a symbol to justify the continued monarchy in Iran, and claimed it was the world’s oldest Human Rights document. They cylinder currently rests at the British Museum in London.)

For ritual magic practitioners, Saturn is also connected with the archangel Cassiel, who is depicted as a bearded man, wearing a crown to represent that he is a prince of Heaven. He is often shown riding a dragon, and carrying the spear much like an inverted version of St. George since he is riding the beast instead of slaying it. Many hideously looking goetic demons also appear wearing crowns and jewelry as royal dukes and kings of hell in Solomonic grimoires for the magician to conjure into manifestation for practical ends. Perhaps these so-called planetary “angels” are nothing more than the fallen angels and demons, led by Lucifer himself.

The German Luciferian/Thelemic organization Grand Lodge Communitas Saturni or the Fraternitas Saturni, also reveres Saturn as the Demiurge and chief patron deity identified as “the principle of knowledge and awareness in full karmic self-responsibility.” The inner, secret practice of this Saturnian order, much like Aleister Crowley’s Shaitan/Satan worshiping cult being the Ordo Templi Orientis, is, of course, homosexual sex magic. This is part of many different efforts to draw down and incarnate an egregore or planetary spirit into a homunculus and usher in a new Aeon of Horus–the Crowned and Conquering Child–which is just code for the coming rule of the AntiChrist and the Beast of Revelation.

I, Pet Chronos II

In the online cartoon short-film, I, Pet Goat II, it depicts encoded subliminal messages that connect to Saturn/Chronos. In the few opening shots, there are various references to Baphomet and Satan. Vigilant Citizen has a decent breakdown of the video, as well as Point of View and There Is Nothing New Under the Sun (although none of its predictions came to pass of course). The later website reports that the pet goat in the Saturn-cube shape, dog house represents the following:

The Goat with a 666 Bar Code on his forehead “Mark of the Beast” is in a shipping box inside a fenced enclosure in Winter. The Goat symbolizes Saturn during Saturnalia in December; the Yule Goat. Saturnalia begins at the end of Ophiucus “Serpent Holder”, the 13th Zodiac sign (Nov 29-Dec 18). On the $ONE the Eagle (Symbol of Esau) carries the Serpent (Lucifer) symbolized by the Apple in the Garden of Eden.

In another scene, we see a figure called Drako (being shown on television) terrorize and siphon energy from a little boy named Ludovic with an empty, egg-shelled head. The egghead boy sees news of a dramatic stock market crash being reflected in his eyes right before a warplane bombing on a mosque. From there, missiles are launched on a city, presumingly representing America or western civilization. We also see Drako siphon off energy from a fetus growing in an egg with its serpentine form attached to a televised all-seeing eye surrounding it, much like the Orphic serpent and world/universal egg. Much later in the short film, Drako, slithers away from the egghead while the now liberated Ludovic. The Heliofant website tells us more about Drako’s role:

The Sorcerer, the unseen hand and spirit of madness seeking ever more control through trickery, lies, poisons, false-flag events, wars, and mountains of bureaucratic and legal framework to siphon off the energy of the inhabitants of the earth. He fears the light of day as he fears life itself, and operates in the shadows. His greatest power is his hold on the issuance of the currency.

satanic-statue-illinois-678x381

The coiling serpent imagery along with the reptilian clawed hand at the beginning of the film also reminds me of the recent Satanic idol of an outstretched hand, erected in a Democratic Illinois, sponsored by the increasingly influential Temple of Satan which proliferates the rise of Satanism in popular culture and left-wing ideology. In Joseph Von Hammer-Purgstall’s Mysterium Baphometis Revelatum as Tracy Twyman reveals, we see similar figures resembling Drako and his victim.

Hammer Purgstall explains the significance of some of the above black and white images:

Regarding the dragon, it will not be irrelevant for us to say a few words. That quadruped, scaly and rough, with tail twisted back, seems in actual fact to be a crocodile rather than a dragon, and soon you will see that it makes no difference if it is called a crocodile. Since in the sculpture of the bowl (Tab. II, fig. 4) it threatens to devour the infant, and since, in the sculptures of the Templar churches the same dragon is represented as swallowing down the infant, we call it a dragon. For according to St. Epiphanius the Ophites taught that the one presiding over this world has the likeness of a dragon. By it, souls not having Gnosis are absorbed, and through its tail, [they are] poured back into this world. We will, however, find below, in the explanation by Schoengrad regarding the sculptures of the churches of the Templars, an image of such a dragon swallowing down and pouring back the infant. It is sufficient here to notice that that man who, in the relief of the second bowl, drags the infant out of the dragon’s jaw, represents a true Gnostic who, by pouring Gnosis into the infant, hinders him from being absorbed by the world.

The imagery also reminds us of Egyptian depictions of the afterlife where the initiate’s heart is weighed against a feather of Ma’at on Thoth’s Scale of Truth in the Duat. If the heart is heavier than a feather, then the initiate is devoured by the monstrous goddess, Ammit. If the heart is lighter, then the initiate is free to move on to the Egyptian paradise Auru.

“The Square and Compass of Freemasonry is an incomplete hexagram, supposedly signifying, according to Craig Heimbichner, that the Freemason is an incomplete Jew and ritually tied to obey rabbinic masters. As can be seen in the Masonic symbol above, the all-seeing eye is in the center of the square and compass, signifying The Grand Architect of the Universe, (T.G.A.O.U.T.U.). Typically, there’s only a ‘G’ in the center, however, which is said to represent, variously: the “Generative principle” (i.e., the male phallus), “Geometry”, “Gnosis” (i.e., knowledge), “God”, or the Tetragrammaton, or so called “Lost Word” or “Ineffable Name” of God, the Greek form of which is said to be IAO, the Hebrew form of which is said to be Jah, or ‘Jehovah’, which is a name that occurs seven times in the King James Bible…” http://itssinstupid.tripod.com/COMPASS6.HTM

The name of Jehovah along with the King James Version of the Bible are also important aspects of Freemasonry and its mysteries, much to the surprise of many Christians. In another scene, we see Juan “Pepito” sinking into a yellow mire of goo, an obvious reference to failed Communist states in Latin countries like Cuba and Venezuela since he is holding the hammer and sickle. Communism, Marxism, and Socialism, however, as John Paul Jones reveals, is actually the unholy spawn of Kabbalistic Freemasonry.

The hammer and sickle symbol of Communism was adopted from Grand Orient Freemasonry, according to John Daniel, author of Scarlet and the Beast. In 1877, when French Grand Orient Freemasonry declared “God is dead”, and “there is no God but humanity”, they replaced the ‘G’ that had traditionally been at the center of the Masonic Square and Compass symbol with a hammer and sickle. “Notice that the symbol forms the letter ‘G’ backwards, which is symbolic of the negation of God and is French Freemasonry’s declaration of atheism.” (John Daniel, Scarlet and the Beast, vol. II, page 45) Thus it, too, represents the inversion of Christian values, or the spirit of anti-Christ, and the number of the Beast, 666. This should not surprise us, since the communist philosophy was rehashed illuminism repackaged by a German Freemason, Qabbalist magician, and son of a Jewish Rabbi, Karl Marx.

As Pope Leo XIII pointed out in his most famous encyclical against Freemasonry, Freemasonry and communism were closely related. It’s no coincidence that Soviet communism adopted the hammer and sickle emblem; this was presumably a cryptic message to occult initiates that Kabbalistic Freemasonry spawned communism. The hammer represents the male principle (white triangle) and sickle represents the female principle (black triangle), thus making it, in the eyes of the adepts, yet another among many symbolical synonyms of Solomon’s Seal. As such it represents the process (solve et coagula, order ab chao) of the occult paradigm, as well as its alchemical purpose.

The sickle of Communism is also emblematic of Saturn. Heliofant, the name of the company that created I, Pet Goat II, is also an obvious reference to the god Helios, who is the same as El Gabal or Elagabalus. The Church Fathers like Irenaeus and Hippolytus explicitly connect the god Helios, Sol Invicti and the Titans with the rise of AntiChrist, as I discuss in-depth in my upcoming book. Helios may also be connected, oddly enough to Yahweh! Sun worship is strongly linked with occultism/witchcraft through Medieval grimoires and human sacrifice, much like how Saturnalia is connected with the same ghastly tradition. In fact, there are many pagan and Christian historians that connect child sacrifice to Chronos/Saturn/Molech worship such as the Greek historian Plutarch reveals just as Yahweh’s punishment against the rebellious Israelites in Ezekiel 20:25-26, involves the mass sacrifices of the first-born flung into the fiery flames. Perhaps this is why the Cathars and Bogomils condemned the Old Testament and Rex Mundi despite Orthodoxy’s insistence of connecting the God of the OT and the NT as the same deity.

As indicated earlier, Saturnalia was also filled with allusions and references of human sacrifice of not only the “Lord of Misrule” but also through the sacrifice of fighting warriors in gladiator games. According to Marcobius’ Saturnalia, war with other countries, as well as other life-changing events like marriage and child-rearing were strictly forbidden during this time since it was thought that the jaws of Hades and Pluto were open during the Winter Solstice, all those who disobeyed were cursed.

…during the festival of Saturn, because his reign is believed to have been free from any tumult of war; and when the entrance to the underworld is open, this being a sacred occasion dedicated to Father Dis and Proserpine, and men deemed it better to go out to battle when the jaws of Pluto are shut. And that is why Varro writes:

“When the entrance to the underworld is open, it is as if the door of the grim, infernal deities were open. A religious ban therefore forbids us not only to engage in battle but to levy troops and march to war, to weigh anchor, and to marry a wife for the raising of children.”

Finally, in loan E Couliano’s Eros and Magic in the Renaissance, he reveals much fascinating information involving Saturn, along with the six other planetary spirits/angels in Renaissance magic and philosophy. Here is just one small snippet of the information he quotes from Marsilio Ficino’s De Amore (On Love).

Souls descend into the bodies of the Milky Way through the constellation of Cancer, enveloping themselves in a celestial and luminous veil which they put on to enter terrestrial bodies. For nature demands that the very pure soul be united with the very impure body only through the intermediary of a pure veil, which, being less pure than the soul and purer than the body, is considered by the Platonists to be a very convenient means of uniting the soul with the terrestrial body. It is due to that descent that the souls and bodies of the Planets confirm and reinforce, in our Souls and our bodies respectively, the seven original gifts bestowed upon us by God. The same function is performed by the [seven] categories of demons, intermediaries between the celestial gods and men.

The gift of contemplation is strengthened by Saturn by means of the Saturnian Demons. The power of the government and empire is strengthened by Jupiter through the ministry of the Jovian Demons; similarly, Mars through the Martians fosters the soul’s courage. The Sun, with the help of the Solar De-mons, fosters the clarity of the senses and opinions that makes divination possible; Venus, through the Venereans, incites Love. Mercury, through the Mercurials, awakens the capacity for interpretation and expression. Finally, the Moon, through the lunar demons, increases procreation. (Amore, VI, 4)

Couliano also reveals that Saturn rules over philosophy as well as the occult.

Depending on the kind of activity to be stimulated, all the planets are equally important: Saturn has charge of higher philosophy and occultism; Jupiter of natural philosophy and politics; Mars of virile certamina; the Sun and Mercury of eloquence, music, and glory; Venus of festivities; and the Moon of nourishment (ibid., II). The influence of the planets over the parts of our body determines the kind of astrological remedies that should be applied depending on the case (ibid., VI). Pharmacology, moreover, is one of the most important branches of magic (ibid., XI, XIII, XV). To summarize all the above concisely: Res naturales atque etiam artificiosae habent virtutes a stellis occultas: per quas spiritum nostrum stellis eisdem exponunt (ibid., XII)—״Natural things as well as artificial things have occult qualities conferred upon them by the stars: through these things our spirit attracts the influence of the respective stars.”

Out From Babylon’s Womb (X-Rated!)

Trigger Warning: Highly controversial, X-rated material featured inside this article!

As I noted in my article, Gnostic Exegesis in Revelation 12, the Freemasonic scholar Manly P. Hall in the Secret Teachings of All Ages, claims the whore of Babylon of Revelation 18 is nothing more than a demonized version of Cybele (p. 188):

Here also is introduced a symbolic figure, termed “the harlot of Babylon, “which is described as a woman seated upon a scarlet-colored beast having seven heads and ten horns. The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet and bedecked with gold, precious st Here also is introduced a symbolic figure, termed “the harlot of Babylon, “which is described as a woman seated upon a scarlet-colored beast having seven heads and ten horns. The woman was arrayed in purple and scones, and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations. This figure may be an effort (probably interpolated) to vilify Cybele, or Artemis, the Great Mother goddess of antiquity. Because the pagans venerated the Mater Deorum through symbols appropriate to the feminine generative principle they were accused by the early Christians of worshiping a courtesan. As nearly all the ancient Mysteries included a test of the neophyte’s moral character, the temptress (the animal soul) is here portrayed as a pagan goddess.

As we saw in previous posts, Cybele was the Phrygian mother-goddess or “mother of the gods” of ancient Troy, and ancient Rome as well with the royal Imperium and emperors. Her worshipers included priests who who castrate themselves (transgendered eunuchs) as well as women. She was also the wife and sister of her brother and husband Saturn/Chronos. Cybele also has strong connections with the “Great Whore of Babylon” of Revelation of St. John the Divine, who is eventually judged and destroyed by God in the apocalypse (17:4) (AKJV), “And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet color, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication. . .”

The Thelemic/Satanic explanation of the Whore of Babylon is presented to us in the form of “Babalon” conjoined or fornicating with the “Beast” of Revelation, which also reminds us of the cabalistic legends of Leviathan and Behemoth, in which we will discuss in due course. The Cybele cult was rumored to be involved with infant sacrifice, orgies and cannibalism—the very things of which the Templars, witches and Bacchus worshipers were accused of doing. Rumors have it that the catacombs underneath Vatican Hill (particularly St. Peter’s Basilica) contain the remnants of forbidden Cybele veneration, including human sacrifice, which some believe continue to operate in secret, even to this day. In part of Ecclessia Gnostica Catholica (Ordo Templi Orientis)’s “Gnostic” Creed, we read:

And I believe in one Earth, the Mother of us all, and in one Womb wherein all men are begotten, and wherein they shall rest, Mystery of Mystery, in Her name BABALON.

And I believe in the Serpent and the Lion, Mystery of Mystery, in His name BAPHOMET.

According to the church father Hippolytus, the Phrygians passed on their mystery rites to the Naassene Gnostics. And they also claimed lineage to “Mariamne,” and to the Lord’s brother, James. Mariamne sounds like just another nickname for Mary Magdalene, an earthly counterpart of the Holy Spirit and twin of Helena, the concubine for Simon Magus (Hippolytus Philosophumena 5, 2). They celebrate the eunuch Attis because he swore against all carnal procreation and lust, in which many Gnostics thought was evil and derived from the fiery powers of the Demiurge to trap more souls of light in matter. And Attis was also celebrated because he was thought to be a transgender hermaphrodite, neither male nor female, but both at the same time. They had a tendency to mix Biblical exegesis from both the Old and New Testament with pagan mystery lore of the Phrygians, the Orphics and Eleusis.

On account of these and such like reasons, these constantly attend the mysteries called those of the Great Mother, supposing especially that they behold by means of the ceremonies performed there the entire mystery. For these have nothing more than the ceremonies that are performed there, except that they are not emasculated: they merely complete the work of the emasculated. For with the utmost severity and vigilance they enjoin (on their votaries) to abstain, as if they were emasculated, from intercourse with a woman. The rest, however, of the proceeding (observed in these mysteries), as we have declared at some length, (they follow) just as (if they were) emasculated persons. And they do not worship any other object but Naas, (from thence) being styled Naasseni (Hippolytus Philosophumena 5, 4).

Hippolytus also goes on to state that another Gnostic group called the Sethians like the Naassenes, thought that the Logos or Christ of the Gospel of John was the same as the serpent based on Jesus’s own admission that the Son of Man will be raised like how the brazen serpent of Moses is raised in Numbers. As it follows, to liberate the spirit, prisoner of matter, Logos took on a form of a slave, being born like a man according to Philippians 2.7. The Logos as he took on the form of a serpent, the shape that allowed the Logos to enter into the inferior world of darkness. But the Gnostic seeker, like the Logos is encouraged to drink the cup from the living waters (a code word for gnosis or salvation), puts away his servile, slave form of the human body and its constraints and assumes the celestial robe or raiment of Glory, close to that we see in Revelation 3.5.

First, then, from the wind— that is, from the serpent— has resulted the originating principle of generation in the manner declared, all things having simultaneously received the principle of generation. After, then, the light and the spirit had been received, he says, into the polluted and baneful (and) disordered womb, the serpent— the wind of the darkness, the first-begotten of the waters— enters within and produces man, and the impure womb neither loves nor recognises any other form.

The perfect Word of supernal light being therefore assimilated (in form) to the beast, (that is,) the serpent, entered into the defiled womb, having deceived (the womb) through the similitude of the beast itself, in order that (the Word) may loose the chains that encircle the perfect mind which has been begotten amidst impurity of womb by the primal offspring of water, (namely,) serpent, wind, (and) beast. This, he says, is the form of the servant, and this the necessity of the Word of God coming down into the womb of a virgin. But he says it is not sufficient that the Perfect Man, the Word, has entered into the womb of a virgin, and loosed the pangs which were in that darkness. Nay, more than this was requisite; for after his entrance into the foul mysteries of the womb, he was washed, and drank of the cup of life-giving bubbling water. And it was altogether needful that he should drink who was about to strip off the servile form, and assume celestial raiment.

The Womb is also portrayed as a realm of darkness, in a rare and highly esoteric Gnostic text, the Paraphrase of Shem. It is interesting in that it is the only Nag Hammadi text that has a three-principle cosmology (light, spirit, darkness).

And an unclean penis was with the demons in accordance with the example of the Darkness, and in the way he rubbed with the womb from the beginning.

The manifest universe is described as a giant vagina being tickled by an unclean demonic penis. The Paraphrase of Shem speaks about this “Womb” entity without a partner, manifestly androgynous, who copulates with herself, generating the phallic Wind-Demiurge “who possesses a Power from Fire and from Darkness and from the Spirit.” This sounds reminiscent of how Mete/Baphomet is described by both Gerald Massey and Joseph Von-Hammer Purgstall. St. Irenaeus in Against Heresies (1.31.2) reports that the Cainites, like another Gnostic teacher, Carpocrates, would engage in all manner of sin to undoing creation or what they called “Hystera,” or the uterus.

I have also made a collection of their writings in which they advocate the abolition of the doings of Hystera. (2) Moreover, they call this Hystera the creator of heaven and earth. They also hold, like Carpocrates, that men cannot be saved until they have gone through all kinds of experience. An angel, they maintain, attends them in every one of their sinful and abominable actions, and urges them to venture on audacity and incur pollution. Whatever may be the nature (3) of the action, they declare that they do it in the name of the angel, saying, “O thou angel, I use thy work; O thou power, I accomplish thy operation !” And they maintain that this is “perfect knowledge,” without shrinking to rush into such actions as it is not lawful even to name.

Epiphanius in the Panarion, also ascribes the authors of the Gospel of Judas, being the Cainites and describing creation as the “Womb” (the Matrix) in a manner of a demiurgical force.

And they say that because of this Judas had found out all about them. For they claim him too as kin and regard him as possessed of superior knowledge, so that they even cite a short work in his name which they call a Gospel of Judas. And they likewise forge certain other works against “Womb.” They call this “Womb” the maker of this entire vault of heaven and earth and say, as Carpocrates does, that no one will be saved unless they progress through all (possible) acts.

For while each of them is doing some unspeakable thing supposedly with this excuse, performing obscenities and committing every sin there is, he invokes the name of each angel—both real angels, and the ones they fictitiously call angels. And he attributes some wicked commission of every sin on earth to each of them, by offering his own action in the name of whichever angel he wishes. And whenever they do these things they say, “This or that angel, I am performing thy work. This or that authority, I am doing thy deed.” And this is what they call perfect “knowledge,” since, if you please, they have taken their cue for venturing without fear on wicked obscenities from the mothers and fathers of sects whom we have already mentioned—I mean the Gnostics and Nicolaus, and their allies Valentinus and Carpocrates.

The Gospel of Thomas and Thomas the Contender have strong anti-woman sentiments, however, they equate all those who are alive in the flesh as fallen and equate this state as being “feminine” because they are born of earthly mother’s wombs and father’s sperm. And then there’s also the feminine soul metaphor as well that Exegesis of the Soul, a Simonian text, discusses at length. As the church fathers reveal, many Gnostic groups, like the Naassenes, Barbelites and the Carpocratians, were actually led and run by women! In Bentley Layton’s translation of the Gospel of Thomas (Logion 79), it tells us that Jesus considered a virgin, and even, a barren womb as “blessed,” hence, he came to defeat the works of the womb while Jesus’s Gnostic spirituality as being “male.” In Clement of Alexandria’s Stromata (3.IX.63), he writes about the Gnostic text, The Gospel of the Egyptians:

Those who are opposed to God’s creation, disparaging it under the fair name of continence, also quote the words to Salome which we mentioned earlier. They are found, I believe, in the Gospel according to the Egyptians. They say that the Saviour himself said “I came to destroy the works of the female,” meaning by “female” desire, and by “works” birth and corruption.

Simon Magus or the Simonian author taught that the Garden of Eden was the womb, according to Hippolytus’s discussion of the Simonian text, the Megale Apophasis or the Great Announcement. The text applies various places in Genesis as being applied to human physiology. It tells us that Eden is the placenta, the river coming out of Eden to water the Garden is the navel, and the river splits into four sources: two veins and two arteries. Adam and Eve are the twin fetuses. In Gnostic texts, Yaldabaoth, is, of course, an abortion of Sophia, because she created without her “male” partner, the aeon Jesus Christ. At the same time, there is also an aeonic womb that gives birth to the spiritual universe of the Pleroma. Here’s St. Irenaeus, discussing Valentinian cosmology in terms of aeonic sex magic in Against Heresies (1.1):

At last this Bythus determined to send forth from himself the beginning of all things, and deposited this production (which he had resolved to bring forth) in his contemporary Sige, even as seed is deposited in the womb. She then, having received this seed, and becoming pregnant, gave birth to Nous, who was both similar and equal to him who had produced him, and was alone capable of comprehending his father’s greatness. This Nous they call also Monogenes, and Father, and the Beginning of all Things.

So, if the “vault of heaven” is the firmament which is the same as Ouranos, the Cainite claimed that this “heaven” or the first heaven is also the demiurgical Womb. The phallic and sperm symbolism refers to the creativity of the artisan/demiurge and his archons and demons to create reality as they see fit. Saturn/Kronos/YHWH castrated Ouranos/El Elyion for his own machinations and Zeus and his progeny (Apollo, Helios, Minerva) would later take on the role as the Demiurge as well and perhaps even symbolize a new universe.

This or that authority, I am doing thy deed.

One wonders if this means that Epiphanius, like Irenaeus, claimed that the Sethian Cainites claimed that by performing obscenities (i.e. agape love feasts or orgiastic rites) that they were somehow influencing reality, by “weakening” or impressing another reality upon demiurgical Womb, that is the “vault of heaven.” They invoke the names of angels, associated with their ritual orgies, supposedly, and somehow use them to engage in magical warfare and storming the Gates of Heaven.

The magicians John Dee and Edward Kelley, near the end of their occult relationship engaged in wife swapping and likely invoked angels, as well. It was a spirit who called itself “Madimi,” who told them to swap wives, initially appeared as a child, but it aged with time and eventually took the form of a young adult girl and began instructing them to engaged in sex magick with her and other angels. According to the Golden Dawn and Gnostic magician Aaron Leitch, having sex with angels, demons and other spirits are apparently quite common. We even see demon sex occur in texts like On the Origin of the World, which discusses Solomonic goetic texts.

In one of the earliest of all alchemical manuscripts is the fragmentary Isis the Prophetess to Her Son Horus discovered in the Codex Marcianus, a medieval collection of Greek texts, it tells us that the Egyptian Goddess Isis tells her son, Horus, that while he was away defeating the evil, Set, she had been residing in Hermopolis studying angelic magic and alchemy and was eventually initiated into these mysteries by the angel of the sun, Amnael, as rendered in Kyle Fraser’s article, Zosimos of Panopolis and the Book of Enoch Alchemy as Forbidden Knowledge.

In accordance with the opportune celestial moments (tôn kairôn), and the necessary revolution of the heavenly sphere, it came to pass that a certain one of the angels who dwell in the first firmament, having seen me from above, was filled with the desire to unite with me in intercourse. He was quickly on the verge of attaining his end, but I did not yield, wishing to inquire of him as to the preparation of gold and silver. When I asked this of him, he said that he was not permitted to disclose it, on account of the exalted character of the mysteries, but that on the following day a superior angel, Amnael, would come…

The next day, when the sun reached the middle of its course, the superior angel, Amnael, appeared and descended. Taken with the same passion for me he didn’t delay, but hastened to where I was. But I was no less anxious to inquire after these matters. When he delayed incessantly, I did not give myself over to him, but mastered (epekratoun) his passion until he showed the sign on his head and revealed the mysteries I sought, truthfully and without reservation (Berthelot p. 29.2-11, 16-23).

Such lustful angel with human sex stories evokes the themes of the Watchers descending to earth to intermarry with human women to breed giants and engender all sorts of chaos on earth as recounted in 1 Enoch. This fits into my own theory that there are two strains of knowledge—one from God through the Logos, and one from the Devil, the “ape” of the Demiurge.

The symbolism of the womb constitutes an apt metaphor for generation, and was thus used in the ancient Mediterranean world to talk about the origins of the universe. It is only fitting that some Gnostics, having reservations about the goodness of the cosmos and its origins, were known to characterize the evil demiurge not as a male, lion-faced demon, but a womb, as well. Irenaeus of Lyons and later with Epiphanius, they accuse these same Gnostics having close kinship with Cain, Esau, and the Sodomites—of pursuing the goal of “dissolving the works of the Womb,” whom “they call the creator of heaven and earth,” through antinomian sex.

This is what Tracy Twyman writes at length about in her newest novel, Genuflect, in which strange aristocrats are obsessed with a perverted Satanic sex ritual which can somehow change the very fabric of the cosmos and create “a new sun,” in which a new deity manifests as. And perhaps this is what Eyes Wide Shut is hinting at with the rainbow and prism symbolism and the ritual orgies. And as the recent total solar 2017 eclipse occurrence indicates, there also seems to be an eclipse of sanity and manifestations of chaotic disaster, that is currently sweeping across America, the “new” Atlantis, according to Francis Bacon.

In the 1998 film, Dark City, by Alex Proyas, it portrays a perpetual night world, designed as a noirish, 1950’s-styled city, built on a spaceship disc that appears as a sort of “flat earth,” that keeps its human hosts in a state of constant nightmare and unreality, like we see in texts like the Valentinian Gospel of Truth, in describing matter. A collective group of “Strangers” being alien, parasitic creatures or demons inhabiting pale, dead humans, have been secretly influencing them and study their subjects due to their jealousy of them containing immaterial souls and spirits. The fact that these parasitic demons inhabit dead humans reflects the idea of the three-leveled Gnostic anthropology that is hinted at in the Parable of the Sower in Matthew 13 by Jesus: pneumatic (spiritual), psychic (soulish) and hylic (material)—the later of which are merely empty husks of flesh possessed by demons of hell. One of these subjects, the main character, John Murdock, eventually discovers he has god-like “tuning” powers that can influence the machines deep beneath the surface to manipulate “reality.” In my article, Ouranos: Lord of the Dome, I speculated:

Perhaps this “vault” or the firmament may be influenced on some level through the collective consciousness or will of the human race but not on the level of God or the gods, or whatever demiurgical force used the firmament or Ouranos to create reality.

strangerstuningits timedeadasvesselstwistingbuildingseyeofmrbookparasiteIn one particular interesting interpretation of the Strangers’ ability to manipulate the world of Dark City, the gigantic head, symbolizing the collective will of the Strangers, can actually be linked to the will and power of Saturn over the physical cosmos.

We also find the Strangers are most active when the city has been put into the sleep state; unconscious. The Stranger’s subterranean control machine is a human head with a clock inside; the mind under the sway of Chronos/Saturn. When the Strangers focus in unison the machine generates the physical structure of the conscious world; the physical structures representing how our world view is limited/controlled by our unconscious projections. The Strangers create the memories which create the mental structure of the inhabitants; showing how our experiences are, again, controlled and guided by the unconscious mind. Since the unconscious content is so far out of balance with John’s (our) life, the psyche appears dark and we are seemingly trapped by the web of illusion spun by Maya; the Strangers. The web of Maya, is represented by the spiral, labyrinthine “web” of the streets of Dark City of which no person can find the way out; Shell Beach/Integration. John’s task, in life, is to reawaken and become the whole-self; alchemical marriage.

The movie itself appears to be based on Daniel P. Schreber’s Memoirs of My Nervous Illness, an account of his mental break. Dark City is the schizophrenic mind of Daniel Schreber. Dark City also appears to exhibit “the way out”, or the alchemical approach to finding wholeness; individuation. In The Red Book, Jung mentions the Schreber case, which along with his own personal mental crisis, most likely served as case studies in his development of the individuation process (alchemy).

The Womb of Darkness that we see in Paraphrase of Shem can also be linked to Dark City. In one particular scene, we see the Strangers conduct their “tuning” experiment with their collective will-power through a giant head, which opens to a clock at 9 p.m., which eventually turns to midnight. Such giant head imagery can be connected with other films like the Ridley Scott 2012 prequel to Alien, Prometheus, where the futurist, visiting human astronauts find a giant head on a derelict alien planet, resembling that of their creators, the Engineers.

The imagery also reminds us of what the Knights Templar revered through the severed head of John the Baptist, who was said to make the “land fertile,” as described in Grail legends. This connects to the idea that on a subconscious level, belief gives imagination reality, and our experience of the world bends and shapes to our expectations of it. The only difference is, is that, the Templars had a hermaphroditic, demonic egregore to help them out with the process! Although, Tracy and I discuss this idea in depth, in our book, Baphomet: The Temple Mystery Unveiled, here is Sean Martin in The Knights Templar (p. 139), describing the significance of the special “head,” that could “prophecy.”

Misunderstanding is almost certainly at the root of the allegation that the Templars worshipped an idol called Baphomet. Descriptions of it varied, but it was usually described as being a life-sized head, which was said to make the land fertile (as is said of the Grail). That the Templars did possess heads is without doubt. They possessed the head of St Euphemia of Chalcedon at their preceptory in Nicosia on Cyprus, and, more curiously, a silver head shaped reliquary was found after the arrests at the Paris Temple. This bore the inscription CAPUT LVIII, and inside it were parts of a woman’s skull (who was believed to have been one of the 11,000 virgins martyred at Cologne with St Ursula).

The heads may have indeed been worshipped, in the way that the Celts revered the head. The Assassins, during their initiation ceremonies, buried the initiate up to his neck in sand, leaving only the head visible, before disinterring him. Given their simulation of Saracen torture, the Templars may also have carried out this practice. A further possibility is that Baphomet, long thought to be a mistranslation of ‘Mahomet’ (the Prophet Muhammad), could well be a corruption of the Arabic word abufihamat, which means ‘Father of Understanding’, a reference to a spiritual seeker after realization or enlightenment has taken place: ‘The Baphomet is none other than the symbol of the completed man.’ It is therefore possible that the supposed head the Templars worshipped was actually a metaphorical head. That Hugues de Payen’s shield carried three black heads suggests that certain elements within the Order – the upper echelons perhaps – were involved with esoteric disciplines learned from the Sufis from the very beginning of the Temple’s existence.

Could these “alchemical heads of prophecy,” be code words for a secret knowledge held by their minds and severed heads or could they refer to the idea that the human mind is, in fact, a reflection of a higher reality in the Logos, the Word of God? The idea that they revered Baphomet seems to be a later additional detail that emerges during the French Revolution and later emphasized with the likes of Joseph Von-Hammer Purgstall, Eliphas Levi, Aleister Crowley, etc. Whatever the case may be, it seems as though the Templar treasure is somehow tied with the symbolism of the head, the mind, as well as the Holy Grail cup which is associated with drinking the wisdom of various Hermetic and Gnostic deities and alchemists like Zosimos, as discussed thoroughly in our book, Baphomet: The Temple Mystery Unveiled. Indeed, even the Holy Grail/Fisher King legends themselves have strong associations with Gnosticism, and it is the Templar secrets that the Roman Catholic Church greatly desired to have suppressed and absorbed into their own occult practices and treasures.

The haunting icon of the skull and crossbones, which we today associate with poison, was most likely a symbol related to the earlier alchemical rites of the Templar Knights. During these early rites, skulls were used representing “Caput Mortumm” or “Dead Head,” which refers to a stage in alchemy preceding creation of the “Philosophers Stone,” which is the Great Work of the alchemists, equated with spiritualized gold. This is the stage of “Nigredo” or the “blackening” in Hades/Hell. The Templars were also said to have in their possession, ritual skulls made from precious metals and human bone covered in gold and silver. These skulls may have been their own deceased brethren.

There are testimonies taken from the Catholic inquisitions that purport of the Knights Templars alluding to possess metallic skulls used in Templar ceremonies, especially in the legend of the “Necromantic Skull of Sidon.” Skulls tend to be used in ancestor worship rituals and happen to be the premiere emblem of Mexican commemoration of the Dia de los Muertos (“Day of the Dead” being a pre-Colombian tradition of ancestor worship and colonial Catholicism) and demonic deity of the drug cartels, Santa Muerte, a mixture of the Virgin Mary (who, herself is the Catholic version of Astarte and Ishtar/Lilith) and the Aztec god of death Mictlantecuhtli.

We also see one of the supporting characters, Detective Walenski, draw a swirling spiral diagram on a wall with chalk in his “mad house.” This isn’t a random design at all as it reflects the Ophite Diagram with its various concentric circles or archonic “heavens,” encircled by the Ouroboros dragon, as we will see below. It could also represent Kronos’ wheel of fate as discussed by the Peratic Gnostics.

We also see the Strangers track down a “streetwalker,” or a “lady of the night,” which, if you haven’t figured out are code words for prostitute. Not surprisingly, it fits with how the Simonian text Exegesis of the Soul, portrays the spirit or soul that is fallen in matter as a prostitute that commits adultery with all kinds of wanton, lustful, adulterous males. These same adulterers can be equated with the lustful angels or archons we see in 1 Enoch and Gnostic texts like Hypostasis of the Archons, which depict Ialdabaoth and his minion archons as horny, lustful, animal-headed demons, obsessed with the prospect of raping the luminous Eve in the Garden of Eden.

DarkCity02-740x316deaddear

We also see the spiral shapes made on the prostitute that takes some interest in the protagonist, John Murdock, by the demonic Strangers, themselves. Please note the deer image reflected in the mirror, next to dead prostitute. In the Naassene Hymn, as quoted by Hippolytus in Refutation of All Heresies, in which the soul is depicted as a (spiritually) dead deer, entrapped in the labyrinth of bitter chaos (the cosmos), surrounded by death’s grip.

The generating principle of the universe, the first in order, was ‘reason’; but the second principle was the firstborn’s emitted ‘chaos’; and the third principle was received by the soul, which descends from both. Therefore, fashioned like a trembling deer, the soul wrests herself free from the grip of death (strengthening itself by such exertions). Now she wins the mastery and sees the light; now plunged into wo, she weeps; again, in the depths of evil, the unhappy one becomes ensnared in a maze. Then spake Jesus: “behold, O Father! this being, pursued by ills, roams astray upon earth, far from thy breath. It seeks to escape bitter chaos, and knows not whither to find escape. Therefore, send me, O Father, with the seals in my hand will I descend: all eons will I traverse, all mysteries reveal, and show the forms of the gods. I will deliver the secret of the holy way, and call it Gnosis.”

neptuneskingdomneptunejohnIn another choice scene, we see our hero, John Murdock, enter in an abandoned amusement park called “Neptune’s Kingdom.” The name Murdoch means, “Seaman,” or the “man of the sea,” which relates to the idea of “semen,” or sperm ejaculate, which also resemble the “Lion and Serpent,” being the lustful Demiurge. We must also note that we first see Murdock wake up in a bathtub, alone, which corresponds to birth and the idea of the Demiurge, an unborn, abortive deity, being born or ejected out of the void or the bitter waters of chaos. John Murdock could also correspond to the idea of the “Grail/Fisher King,” or John Fisher, who like John the Baptist, was beheaded for defending the sacrament of matrimony for Queen Catherine from King Henry VIII. In John the Baptist’s case, he received martyrdom for protesting King Herod Antipas’ adulterous marriage to Herodias. In Jay Dyer’s film analysis of Dark City, one particular comment ties Murdock with the fallen civilization of Atlantis, which also forms a part of Hades or Hell, because it had sunk there.

This ties in nicely with the whole dream of a beach and his mystical experience at Neptune’s Kingdom, since in Neo-Platonic theology, individual souls’, separation from and return to the the Divine Mind or Platonic Absolute, was often portrayed single drops of water being reintegrated in the immensity of the Ocean. Additionally, it was Neptune/Poseidon who, according to Plato, founded Atlantis, a mythical city that is important to all sorts of occult groups.

Over at Parareligion.ch, Peter-Robert Koenig, quotes Aleister Crowley, who exalts himself as the physical manifestation (or possessed) of his Holy Guardian Angel, Aiwaz, who is in reality, the Devil himself. This only proves the reality of 2 Corinthians 11:14: “And no marvel; for Satan, himself is transformed into an angel of light.” The sperm used in his sodomite sex rituals are injected with the spirit of Baphomet, who himself, is an aspect of Ialdabaoth, the Satanic Demiurge. Oddly, he also connects the Holy Spirit with Baphomet through, perhaps, Sophia. The act of sodomy on the recipient represents the destruction of the pillars that hold up the heavens or the firmament and the invocation of the forces of hell, as Tracy Twyman reveals.

Aleister Crowley, diary 30th June 1920: When I was [Eliphas] Levi, I drew myself as Ayin or Baphomet, ‘The Devil’, with the Beast’s Head. This is the Beast throned, crowned, exalted; the leaper, the erect, the butter-in. Her womb is my city, Babel. This Ayin is then my Phallic Will, my Holy Guardian Angel, Aiwaz, who was afterwards called Satan.” Diary 19th/20th January 1918 about Baphomet: I find 729 = the curse of Satan! Of course.” The name Baphomet is used to signify the Lion-Serpent or Semen. This is the Blood of the Phallus in which its life-force is concentrated. The Phallus is the Wonder-Tree (in Crowley’s Gnostic Catholic Mass) and the semen is the sap that continues its existence from generation unto generation. Baphomet as the Semen is also the Holy Ghost, the continuity between the Father and the Son, and one part of the matter of the Sacrament. This is the Holy Spirit on the Inner.

In the film Hellraiser II: Hellbound, we are treated to a haunting vision of Hades, where the god or fallen angel, Leviathan is depicted as being the chief ruler of the Cenobites and Hell. Hell, like the manifest cosmos in the Naassene Hymn is also depicted as a maze or labyrinth in which no one can get out of. One of the characters, Julia Cotton, makes a startling reply to the good Doctor Channard, after he says, “My God!” when he witnesses Hell’s Black Diamond which can be the Clive Barker equivalent to the “Black Sun.” She says, “No, this is mine—the god that sent me back. The god I serve in this world and yours—the god of flesh, hunger and desire—my god, Leviathan, Lord of the Labyrinth!” And then the doctor is tricked into becoming an agent of wrath for the Labyrinth Lord to enact vengeance against the Cenobites, later in the film. According to one website, it says the following about Levithan’s powers:

Leviathan is immortal and has the power to create any Cenobite in any way, shape, or form as it sees fit in order to serve it. It emits beams of black light that causes those hit by them to see and feel their sins and wrongdoings. It feeds on the souls of those that are brought to Hell, but are deemed unworthy to become Cenobites.

Leviathan gets weakened however and suffers a temporary power loss when the Lament Configuration is solved while in Hell. When this happens, it reverts into its cube shape and its captured souls flee out of it at a rapid rate.

The black light that the Black Diamond emits also resembles dark clouds from a supernatural storm or flood. Perhaps the black light could also represent the breath of Mete or Baphomet’s “baptism of wisdom,” as well. In the Sethian text, the Gospel of Judas, we read that Saklas (the demiurge) will also send a flood.

And Judas said to Jesus, “What will those who have been baptized in your name do?”Jesus said, “Truly I say [to you (sg.)], this baptism 56 [ . . . in] my name[ . . . ] will destroy the entire race of Adam, the earthly man. Tomorrow the one who bears me will be tortured. Truly I [say] to you (pl.), no hand of a mortal human being [will] sin against me. Truly [I] say to you, Judas, those who offer sacrifice to Saklas…

Minus the lucuna, what Jesus seems to be saying is, Judas offers Jesus and indirectly, himself, as being sacrificed to Saklas. This is where the scapegoat Azazel/Judas-Goat symbolism comes in. The baptism that Jesus is referring could be a counterfeit one because it’s aimed at destroying the “entire race of Adam,” created by the archons. Perhaps this could refer to “baptism of wisdom” of the Knights Templars and Baphomet, discussed at length in our book, Baphomet: The Temple Mystery Unveiled.

When it says, “tomorrow the one who bears me will be tortured,” it has an affinity with Paul, who also uses the language of magic to “give over” his enemies to Satan in 1 Corinthians 5:

It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that even pagans do not tolerate: A man is sleeping with his father’s wife. … As one who is present with you in this way, I have already passed judgment in the name of our Lord Jesus on the one who has been doing this. So when you are assembled and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.

This also matches with how at the end of the Gospel of Judas, Judas hands Jesus over the authorities, like he does in the Gospels. In the Gospel of John (13:26), Jesus invokes Satan into Judas with a piece of bread to carry out his dirty work! It also connects to how Baphomet appears to those being tortured as Rudolf Steiner once said. Margaret Jonas in The Templar Spirit: The Esoteric Inspiration, Rituals, and Beliefs of the Knights Templar, specifically connects Baphomet with the torture of the Templar Knights under the inquisition, while quoting Rudolf Steiner:

Baphomet is a being of the Ahrimanic world who appears to people when they are being tortured. That happens really cleverly, since they then bring a lot of visions back with them when they return to consciousness.

Baphomet, the Ahrimanic God of Torture, enters a human body under conditions of torture, such as experienced by the Templars and Cathars, done by the Inquisition of the Catholic Church. Perhaps the same can be said for prisoners at Guantanamo Bay detention camp. This sheds new light on Aleister Crowley in The Book of the Law (Chapter 3), who advocates torture and also called himself “Baphomet.” “Mercy let be off; damn them who pity! Kill and torture; spare not; be upon them!”

As mentioned in the book Baphomet: The Temple Mystery Unveiled, we also have the rare esoteric eighth-century Shiite text, Mother of Books (Umm al-ktab), which portrays the arrogant “Azazi’il” in terms identical to that of the Gnostic Demiurge. The Gospel of John’s description of Satan as the “prince of the world” or St. Paul’s moniker for the “god of this world” is virtually indistinguishable from the Yezidi and Shi’ite notions of who Melek Taus/Azazil is. In the same Shiite text (found in the compiled The Gnostic Bible by Willis Barnstone and Marvin Meyer), it tells us that this “Azazi’il,” has gone by many guises throughout world history:

So the cursed Azazi’il, and those who proceeded from his cry fell down from the high king, down into the curtain, and fell for seven thousand years because of seven harsh denials and rejection. These are noted in the Qur’an: denial of the divinity, denial of the kingdom, denial of the glory, denial of the highest god, denial of his godliness, denial of light, and denial of the spirit’s mind. The high king had bestowed each particle of his inherent light to the rash fool, who used it to create his filthy creatures. From bellowing screams they made spirits, filling them with disbelief, denial, lies, error, rebellion, and corrupting avarice.

The name of this curse changes in each realm. In god’s realm he was called Azazi’il, and in the time of humans was called Harith, at the time of Adam, Ahriman, at the time of Noah and David, Suwa, at the time of Abraham, Nimrod, at the time of Moses, it was the pharaoh, at the time of Jesus, it was the tempter, and at the time of Muhammad, Abu Jahl. In our time he is called Satan. All names are sounds invented by the cursed one, who with the others in the turquoise dome refused to witness, while the ones who came before, whose leader is Salman, accepted manifestation of the highest king.

According to Irenaeus in Against Heresies (1.31.1), the Gospel of Judas teaches that Judas’ act of betrayal of Jesus to die on the cross, thrown the ordered powers on earth and the heavens into chaos:

On this account, they add, they have been assailed by the Creator, yet no one of them has suffered injury. For Sophia was in the habit of carrying off that which belonged to her from them to herself. They declare that Judas the traitor was thoroughly acquainted with these things, and that he alone, knowing the truth as no others did, accomplished the mystery of the betrayal; by him all things, both earthly and heavenly, were thus thrown into confusion. They produce a fictitious history of this kind, which they style the Gospel of Judas.

Similarly, the Gospel of Judas tells us after Jesus tells Judas that he will sacrifice the human being he inhabits, he announces that “the thrones of the aeons have been defeated, and the kings have become weak, and the races of the angels have grieved, . . . the ruler is destroyed.”

Even the canonical Gospels, seem to hint at this when Jesus dies on the cross and darkness and destruction envelopes Jerusalem and even eclipsed the sun, as we see in Matthew (27:45-54) (NKJV):

Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour there was darkness over all the land. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said, “This Man is calling for Elijah!”

Immediately one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and offered it to Him to drink.

The rest said, “Let Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to save Him.”

And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.

Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the graves after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many.

So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!”

If the fixed stars are enclosed by the Ouroboros, perhaps it was Jesus who also crucified the Ouroboros as well—thus affecting the heavens. The firmament may also equated with Ouroboros, the serpent that swallows his own tail—an image used to represent the barrier between the cosmos and eternity, where the beginning meets the end and engenders a new beginning. The Ouroboros is called the “sum of all philosophy,” according to Cleopatra the Alchemist, in the Gnostic-Hermetic text, Chrysopeia (Gold‐Making). In the Ophite Diagram as described by Celsus in the True Doctrine, the Zodiac or the Fixed Stars is surrounded by the Ouroboros, which also resembles the Egyptian goddess Nut, who arches her body to create and adorned the sky when she, “fashioned great luminous bodies and all the stars.” Nut arches forward but the bent over man arches backwards, as “the Arch of Hysteria” by Louise Bourgeois, depicts.

The Gnostic text, On the Origin of the World, tells us that Sophia, “functioned as a veil dividing mankind from the things above.” The same tail-eating snake separates the manifest universe from the higher, heavenly realms, including Paradise, Life, and the Pleroma where the Father and Son rule and rest in the Empyrean. Just as Jesus invokes the brazen Serpent in John 3:14 with the Son of Man, the Ouroboros can also be compared with the Son of Man, as well, when he says things like, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last” (Revelation 22:13). In Valentinian cosmology, the Cross is actually what separates the manifest universe from the Pleroma. Without the Cross, no one is able to enter into the Celestial Temple. Perhaps the Ouroboros functions in the same manner.

Tracy Twyman in Genuflect specifically connects Ouranos with the Ouroboros.

It was 8 a.m. now, and I thought I should probably check the news first. Yet I couldn’t shake the image of the mating worms in my dream. I knew that Leviathan, that dreaded sea serpent in the Bible, was often depicted just like the Ouroboros, swallowing its own tail, and encompassing the entire cosmos within its coil.

Like the monstrous Titans, Ouroboros was a representation of the chaos that was thought to preexist the creation of matter. But sometimes it was depicted as two serpents shown swallowing each other, much like the mutually fucking and devouring hermaphrodite worms in my dream.

I looked it up, and sure enough, earthworms are hermaphrodites, so this is how they mate. I remembered that the words for “worm” and “serpent” were the same in ancient Sumer: orm. I decided to look to see if there were any etymological links between orm, “Ouroboros,” and “Ouranos.” What I found was something better.

As it turned out, “Ouranos” and “Ouroboros” are definitely connected. I used “Google Translate” and found that the word which Wikipedia had rendered as “sky” actually means “rain‐maker,” or, more specifically, “urinater.” Rain was thus likened to urine from the sky. And Ouroboros didn’t mean “tail‐swallower,” as the same source had claimed. That was clearly a euphemism. I discovered a more literal rendering: “urine‐drinker.” The Ouroboros is the uncreated one, I thought. He needs nothing. He produces what he needs. And because he is eternal, because there is no future where he is, that is sufficient. But like Gaia and Ouranos, I mused, this Eternal Serpent was cut up. Isn’t that in Egyptian myth somewhere? Worms can regenerate if you slice them in half, and that’s what this one did. It became two. Then they started fucking and sucking on each other. It meant the same thing because their mouths and their wombs were the same thing. And the “children” in their wombs were the source of their nourishment. Their wombs were also their stomachs.

This seemed to me like a logical deduction to make from the known details of the story. I felt a flash of pride that I had figured it out. It was an ancient riddle that probably very few had even realized was a riddle, much less pondered about, in the intervening millennia (p. 126-127).

According to Irenaeus in Against Heresies, the Ophites conceived of Sophia as the “left power” whose existence is accounted for by an accident at the summit of the Pleroma. Her “right side” belongs to the living Son, Christ. Sophia is unable to contain in herself all the mass of fertile Light emanating from the universal Father and his Son. As Ioan Couliano summarizes in Tree of Gnosis (pg. 75):

…part of this luminous seed flows out from her left side, producing Sophia, a.k.a. Left, Prunicos, and Sinistra. Sophia descends to the immovable Waters, sets them in motion, and extracts from them a watery body that weighs her down to the point that she cannot discard it any more. In her effort to return to the heights of the Pleroma, she stretches out like a blanket, forming with her body the visible sky. For a while she dwells under the sky, yet eventually she is able to discard her material body, called Woman, and escape beyond the sky. She has a son, Ialdabaoth, who begets the six Archons; together the seven form the Hebdomad of the planets. Against the Rulers of the universe who tyrannize humankind, Sophia does not miss any occasion to cheat the former in order to help the latter. Yet unable to make an end to her son’s despotism, she calls for aid from the Mother of the Living, who dispatches Sophia’s “right” brother Christ to join her. He becomes her partner (syzygos) and saves humankind under the guise of Jesus Christ.

What we are experiencing is the possible reversal of that bending backwards process that unfolded the universe in the first place, in the “Big Bang.” It is essentially, the destruction of the fixed stars or the Zodiac. For Gnostic authors like Philip K. Dick in Tractates Cryptica Scriptura (as found in his book VALIS), the movement of time actually flows backwards:

The great secret known to Apollonius of Tyana, Paul of Tarsus, Simon Magus, Asklepios, Paracelsus, Boehme and Bruno is that: we are moving backward in time. The universe in fact is contracting into a unitary entity which is completing itself. Decay and disorder are seen by us in reverse, as increasing. These healers learned to move forward in time, which is retrograde to us.

The Gospel of Philip also tells us that the universe is literally ass-backwards with the archons swapping evil for good.

But truth brought names into existence in the world for our sakes, because it is not possible to learn it (truth) without these names. Truth is one single thing; it is many things and for our sakes to teach about this one thing in love through many things. The rulers (archons) wanted to deceive man, since they saw that he had a kinship with those that are truly good. They took the name of those that are good and gave it to those that are not good, so that through the names they might deceive him and bind them to those that are not good. And afterward, what a favor they do for them! They make them be removed from those that are not good and place them among those that are good. These things they knew, for they wanted to take the free man and make him a slave to them forever.

What we are experiencing is the possible reversal of that bending backward process that unfolded the universe in the first place, in the “Big Bang.” It is, essentially, the sacrifice or destruction of the fixed stars of the Zodiac. In Joel (2:30-31) (KJV), we are told that the Lord will produce many violent upheavals in the heavens and on earth:

And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come.

As the sun is darkened, dies and replaced, it also affects reality on earth. And as we already established, the physical sun essentially filters through a spiritual light from beyond the cosmos and are even compared to (along with the moon), as eyes in the body in the Manichaean Kephalaion LX.  The implication for all of this is, mankind is trapped in some sort of purgatory-like labyrinth realm. It becomes clear what Dark City along with the Matrix films are telling us, like what the Cathars believed: the earth is hell, and we are living in it here and now. “Ye shall not surely die.” Perhaps the Serpent’s admission in Genesis refers to eternal existence on earth reincarnating into bodies with false memories implanted in each succeeding life. This is what Dark City seems to be telling us, as well as television shows like HBO’s Westworld, which would take an entire dissertation to dissect properly.

The Strangers are clearly fallen angels and demons. They have warped mankind’s views of reality and have conducted experiments on them, which could also connect to macroevolution, or that is, the evolution of one species into another species. Texts like 1 Enoch (86:3-5) says this exactly, in which fallen angels procreated with both animals and people to create new hybrid species. These fallen angels caused evolutionary change by breeding biologically.

I saw a vision, and behold, I saw in the sky many stars falling and throwing themselves to the first star. They became cows like other cows, and they grazed with them. I looked again and behold, I saw all of them getting erect penises, and they started mounting the female cows. They got pregnant, and gave birth to elephants, camels, and donkeys.

They also stole our memories of our previous lives in the Celestial Temple being Heaven/the Garden of Eden. We fell from the Garden and the earth serves as a form of punishment of being “baptized in the punishments of matter,” as the Corpus Hermeticum tells us.

Clement of Alexandria says that Marcion and his followers derived their doctrine that birth is evil from Plato and the Pythagoreans. They hold the view that the soul is punished in the body and transmigrate (III 12, 1ff; 13, 1-3) in accordance with Philolaus:

The follower of Pythagoras says: “The theologians and the wise man of old witness that the soul is yoked to the body to undergo acts of punishment and is buried in it as in a grave” (Stromata. III 17,1= Philolaus. fr. B 44 DK).

In the Cathar text, The Secret Supper: The Book of John the Evangelist, Satan is depicted as a demiurgic fallen angel with seven tails, who tricks other angels in heaven to leave their home in heaven and become entrapped in bodies of clay of the first humans, being Adam and Eve.

And Satan bade them to perform the works of the flesh in their bodies of clay, but they did not know how to commit sin. The originator of sin accomplished his purpose by his seduction, in this way: He planted a paradise and set men therein and bade them not to eat of its fruits. The devil entered Paradise and planted a bed of reeds in the midst of Paradise; of his spittle he made a serpent and bade him remain in the reeds. Thus the devil concealed the knowledge of his deceit so that they would not perceive his treachery. He went in to them saying, ‘Eat of all the fruit in Paradise, but of the fruit of good and evil eat not.’

Thereafter the wicked devil, entering into the evil serpent, deceived the angel who was in the form of a woman and poured out upon her head a longing for sin,” and Eve’s desire was like a glowing oven. Forthwith, the devil in the form of the serpent came out of the reeds and sated his lust on her with the serpent’s tail.

That is why [the offspring] are called not sons of God but sons of the devil and sons of the serpent, fulfilling the diabolic desires of their father even unto the end of the world. After this, the devil poured out his longing upon the head of the angel who was in Adam; and [both angels] were affected by a lust for debauchery, together begetting children of the devil and of the serpent, until the consummation of the world.”

The globalist framework is geared towards maintaining their power as agents of the Labyrinth Lord, Leviathan. It’s too late for them and so they want to drag everyone else to hell with them—dead or alive. The “alt. left,” and the “alt. right,” framework are just methods to grind your reality into, as the Gnostics would call it, “bitter chaos.” Ordo ab Chao (Order out of Chaos). Solve et. Coagula. Thesis, antithesis, synthesis. They are impressing unreality and hysteria into existence—perhaps even the very wheel of fate and manifest a new universe in their own likeness and their own image so that they can control and become God, or so they think. There’s no coincidence that the words “hysteria,” or “mania,” are etymologically close to the word “Hystera,” which is the Womb or “tomb” of matter.

In many ways, the Old Testament connects with the New Testament in its constant foreshadowing. The true Exodus from the world is the Exodus from Egypt, Sodom and Babylon as we see in the Old Testament. At the same time, many of the practices of the Old Covenant are rendered null and void because Jesus Christ not only became the atonement on the Cross but also the High Priest as we see in Hebrews. The spiritual journey or way back through the Cross of Christ is also our way back into the true Promised Land, the Garden of Eden, reconfigured as the New Jerusalem with eternal and free communion with the Godhead and eternal access to the Tree of Life. And so, we are called to walk the great end-times New Exodus through the Cross and out from Babylon, which is epitomized as the Harlot or Whore of Babylon that is in “hysteria” in the “dark womb” that is eventually judged and totally engulfed and destroyed by fire.

The scholar April DeConick in her book The Gnostic New Age: How a Countercultural Spirituality Revolutionized Religion from Antiquity to Today, connects state political figures with that of demonic archons.

There is a revolutionary edge to the Gnostic vision of the gods, one with political implications. Traditionally, kings and emperors were representatives of the gods, tasked with maintaining cosmic and civil order. When Gnostics characterize the traditional gods as demonic monsters in Roman military uniform, they are implying that their political leaders, the Roman power brokers, are demonic too. In Gnostic thought, the royals and their officials are the bad guys, terrorizing the rest of us, lying to us, and keeping us in servitude in the interests of their demonic overlords.

And perhaps this is what the world is currently facing as it stares down into the dark abyss, waiting for the great red dragon to strike as the male child of the Winged Mother is taken away while the world suffers the wrath of the archons, and revenge of the Titans. Will the eye of light finally one day close on the world? In the next post, we will examine other parts of Revelation and how it connects in concert with the Winged Mother and her escape from the wrath, including the supposed Anti-Christ figure that is supposed to one day manifest as an instrument to deceive the entire face of the world. Luke 21:38 tells us to watch and not marvel the signs and constantly pray to stand worthy before the Son of Man:

Watch therefore, and pray always, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Where the Rainbow Ends and Begins

In Revelation (3:10-12) (NRSV), we see Jesus telling the reader to endure in the faith and that the city of New Jerusalem will descend from heaven, at the end.

10 Because you have kept my word of patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth. 11 I am coming soon; hold fast to what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. 12 If you conquer, I will make you a pillar in the temple of my God; you will never go out of it. I will write on you the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem that comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name.

Later, we see in Revelation (21:2) and (9-14), fulfill Jesus’ promises, when it descends to earth after the apocalypse is over.

2 And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

9 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And in the spirit he carried me away to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. 11 It has the glory of God and a radiance like a very rare jewel, like jasper, clear as crystal. 12 It has a great, high wall with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates are inscribed the names of the twelve tribes of the Israelites; 13 on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. 14 And the wall of the city has twelve foundations, and on them are the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

In Tracy Twyman’s Clock Shavings (p. 282-283), she writes how the Cube of the New Jerusalem, at the end of the apocalypse of Revelation, will somehow merge with the black cube of Saturn, below, in hell. Saturn, as many of my readers will know, is also synonymous with the demiurge, Ialdabaoth.

Cain wants to get out. All of those in who are in Hell want out. But the fallen angels down there know something that the human spirits also trapped there probably don’t know: that at the End of Times, the Abyss will open up and let them out of Hell, temporarily. Heaven will also open up, and literally merge with Earth as the white cube of the New Jerusalem descends. In my mind, it is most likely that the black cubic city will ascend from the depths as well. Heaven, Hell and Earth will all co‐mingle in a timeless moment. Perhaps the black and white cubes will merge. This may be the ultimate explanation for the checker pattern on the Ageio board. This, I think, will be their opportunity to switch places with humankind, and be back in the bosom of the Lord. Then again, perhaps they think that they will be able to take control of the celestial Ark, the cube, and be in the driver’s seat, the God position, when things start anew. I think the belief is that, if they can get inside the white cube, in the position of God, they can be God, and they can win the Apocalypse game. Meanwhile, they believe, Baphomet will get his expressed wish: to see “MAN LOST IN HELL.” We will be outside the cube, trapped in the chaotic Abyss where they were once tortured.

There isn’t just one cosmic cube, but two. In addition to the black cube, which she says is the city, Enoch, there’s a white cube, in heaven per Revelation. When the cubes meet the world we know will be destroyed except for those inside the white cube of the New Jerusalem, the shining city that lands on earth after all of the turmoil and suffering after the events of the apocalypse have passed. The cube shape is also associated with Saturn.

So, what do the rainbow and the triangle-shaped prism represent? I’d wager somehow the black prism somehow (alchemically) changes the nature of light, it circles around Saturn and comes back to the moon to do another loop. This is what I believe the black monolith of 2001: A Space Odyssey, represents and perhaps can be connected to the stones of acquittal per Revelation and Zechariah. The monolith could also be a black inversion of the holy stones and instead, a cursed object in which Kronos or Saturn or whatever demiurgical power guides creation on the course of evolution to eventually merge with it.

Perhaps, as I’ve theorized earlier in my article “Ouranos: Lord of the Dome,” of the possibility that the earth may have dome-like Firmament over it as is described in the Bible and other ancient myths like the Greeks and Babylonians, especially in how Ouranos’ relationship to Gaia or the Earth. The rainbow could very be evidence of a glass-like dome over our world as many flat-earthers maintain. A light that shines through a prism can create the colors of a rainbow, and a thick enough piece of glass can act as a prism. Moreover, could this represent what the new age conspiracy author David Icke postulates as the Saturn-Moon Matrix? An answer to this question may be found in the European Space Agency website titled Saturn’s Rainbow Rings:

saturnrings

As we saw earlier in part 3, the seven rays are intimately connected with Gnosticism and can also be connected with the idea of the rainbow, which is a pride symbol for the gay LGBTQ movement. The rainbow rings of Saturn also look particularly like a chain as well, symbolizing imprisonment and enslavement. Interestingly, in the film, 2001: A Space Odyssey, we also see seven diamonds in the haunting and famous “Stargate” montage sequence, which could possibly connect to the seven pillars or the seven parts of the Holy Spirit and the seven churches that John the Revelator addresses in Revelation 1.

In Genesis, Yahweh provides the sign of the rainbow at the end of the flood to signal that he would never again flood the world. In a way, this mirrors what is described in Greek mythology, as the titan Atlas, holds heavens on his shoulders. Without this “column” or “pillars” between the earth and the heaven, the sky falls and causes the Great Flood and the fall of Atlantis. The rainbow could also symbolize this separation between heaven and earth, where the pillars of Wisdom are held up.

Ezekiel described Yahweh as being bronze from the waist up and made of fire from the waist down with a rainbow surrounding him (Ezekiel 1:27-28). Daniel describes a similar figure made of bronze and fire (Daniel 10:5-6). And as we saw earlier, the theme of the “seven rays” also fits quite well with rainbow symbolism. Even in (2 Enoch Chapter 12, XII), we see rainbows in Eden like realms:

And I looked and saw other flying elements of the sun, whose names (are) Phoenixes and Chalkydri, marvellous and wonderful, with feet and tails in the form of a lion, and a crocodile’s head, their appearance (is) empurpled, like the rainbow; their size (is) nine hundred measures, their wings (are like) those of angels, each (has) twelve, and they attend and accompany the sun, bearing heat and dew, as it is ordered them from God.

Thus (the sun) revolves and goes, and rises under the heaven, and its course goes under the earth with the light of its rays incessantly.

In Stanley Kubrick film, Eyes Wide Shut, we do see a few references to rainbows. There has been countless “esoteric” or “Illuminati” analysis articles and videos per Eyes Wide Shut, and the triangular prism and rainbow symbols are especially interesting and present with this film.

The first instance we see of a rainbow reference is when Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise’s characters are invited to a Christmas Ball. In one scene Tom Cruise/Dr. Bill Harford is confronted by two prostitutes, or perhaps covert agents of the pagan orgy cult, who ask him if he would like to go “where the rainbow ends?” To which Bill Harford replies, “that all depends on where that is.”

(Tom Cruise with two prostitutes or members of the orgy cult with Christmas lights behind symbolizing, perhaps, the “lights in the firmament” per Genesis 1:14.)

Later in the film, the good doctor finds himself at a costume rental shop so he can attend the masked orgy we see later on in the film.

According to one YouTube video, the rainbow is also connected to not only various occult ideas but also MK-Ultra “Illuminati” mind-control, child-rape/pedophilia and other forms of sexual deviancy. The video describes the rainbow as a “hypnotic device.” This is no doubt connected to gay rainbow flag and perhaps even Pizzagate and Project Paperclip. As the video points out, rainbows are also associated with the 1950’s classic Wizard of Oz film. The term “Oz” can be connected with a book that Aleister Crowley authored being “Liber Oz” or “Book 77,” as well as Liber 777, which obviously ties with 777 (a number of completion, perfection, and judgment) and 70 generations and angels in the Old and New Testament. 70 generations equal to approximately 4,900 to 7,000 years, if generation can represent 70 years to 100 years in a human life span. Jay Dyer, in his book Esoteric Hollywood: Sex, Cults and Symbols in Film, writes about the film and points out how all of Bill’s experiences and events are sort of a journey of initiation into the dark mysteries sort of like Jonah’s journey or descent into the belly of the whale or Christ’s descent into Hades. But the symbolism is closer to a Masonic initiation ceremony, where the initiate is blindfolded and lead by the “hangman’s noose.”

Still oblivious to these synchronicities, Bill remains blindfolded like Nick, yet not with a literal blindfold. Bill’s blindness is to his own naivety and ignorance concerning himself and the world around him. All the clues are before him, that he is being led like a lamb to the slaughter, should he choose to see it. The event’s are Bill’s initiation as he tested regarding his “fidelio,” faithfulness either to his wife, his ambiguous sense of middle-class morals, or, ultimately, to the cult – hence the password. It should be noted as well the cult retains these sexual elements, where the profane seeker is in darkness (eyes wide shut or blindfolded), in which only only the hierophant or cult leader can enlighten, remembering that light is a prism or rainbow. The rainbow is also a symbol of the disregard of sexual inhibitions in relation to the rainbow flag of the homosexual movement.

Then, there’s also the Christmas decorated, eighth-rayed star, which interestingly, is associated with the Priesthood of Melchizedek, symbolizing baptism, rebirth, the female uterus/womb and eternity. It also connects to the 888 Logos numerology and being reborn in the spiritual sun or the “eye of light” of the light Adam.

In the book Baphomet: The Temple Mystery Unveiled, we (Tracy Twyman and I) discussed how the hermaphroditic figure of “Mete” which is the Greek equivalent to Baphomet. For the Orientalist, Von Hammer-Purgstall, he considers “Mete” to be simply the Greek word “wisdom,” a personification in what we may perhaps call the Gnostic mythology answering to the Sophia of the Ophianites. He considers that the name Baphomet is derived from the Greek words “the baptism of Metis,” and that in its application it is equivalent with the name Mete itself. He has further shown that Baphomet is connected with the Gnostic sects of the East, as we theorized, starts with John the Baptist, continuing on with Simon Magus and his Gnostic successors. Like the image above of the horned naked woman with spider legs, Baphomet was also conceived as a chimeric creature, containing both angelic and bestial, divine and infernal components. In a way, the Old Testament scripture, Deuteronomy 4:15-19 (NKJV) anticipates Baphomet worship of the Knights Templars:

Take careful heed to yourselves, for you saw no form when the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire, lest you act corruptly and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of any figure: the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on the earth or the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground or the likeness of any fish that is in the water beneath the earth. And take heed, lest you lift your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, the moon, and the stars, all the host of heaven, you feel driven to worship them and serve them, which the Lord your God has given to all the peoples under the whole heaven as a heritage.

As quoted in our book, according to Thomas Wright in The Worship of The Generative Powers, Mete can be equated with the number 8, because Mete is “one and seven” or “1 plus 7,” which can also correspond to the seven colors of the rainbow and the seven planetary archons and the Demiurge.

This still is, it must be confessed, rather mysterious, and, in fact, most of these copies of the formula of faith are more or less defective, but, from a comparison of them, the general form and meaning of the whole is made perfectly clear. This may be translated, “Let Mete be exalted, who causes things to bud and blossom! he is our root; it (the root) is one and seven; abjure (the faith), and abandon thyself to all pleasures.” The number seven is said to refer to the seven archons of the Gnostic creed.

The 19th-century mythicist, Gerald Massey in The Natural Genesis, Volume 2, he explicitly connects Mete and Baphomet with what is associated with the Holy Spirit, being the pneumatic breath of God:

Mete was the Baphomet or the mother of breath. An invocation addressed to this form of the bearded mother is shown by Du Puy to have been “Yalla” a supposed Saracenic word. This like so many other titles of the genetrix, such as nana and Maya, is an Inner African name for the great or Grand Mother…The oldest form of the great mother, the mother of the gods, known to the Greeks as Rhea, Kubele, Kubebe, Abbas and Ma, is identified by her other names with this the most recent genitrix.

In Joseph von Hammer‐Purgstall’s 1818 treatise Mysterium Baphometis Revelatum, it depicts many androgynous demons and naked men and women that were copied from actual “Templar artifacts.” In one illustration, we see a naked woman kneeling on the ground between two images of a figure identified on several of the artifacts as Mete/Baphomet and even Sophia-Achamoth. The woman is pouring water out of a vase onto the candles of a candelabrum called a “seven‐branch” or the Jewish menorah, which represents the seven pillars of Wisdom per Proverbs and the seven golden lampstands being the seven churches, ruled over by the seven stars (or angels) that the Son of Man addresses (to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea) in Revelation 1:1-20. In other words, the hermaphroditic harlot, Mete, is out to pour torrents of water over the spiritual church or assembly (the Body of Christ), much like the great dragon per Revelation 12!

The church historian Eusebius in his Church History wrote about a fringe Christian cult leader named Montanus. Montanus operated in Phrygia in the second century, the homeland of the infamous Cybele cult, which demanded its followers to castrate themselves and slash their bodies while being spattered by the blood of a sacrificed bull as part of their initiation into the priesthood of Cybele. The Thracians thought that the chief divinity of the Samothracian and Lemnian mysteries as Rhea-Hecate, a chthonic deity associated with Cybele.

The hymn of Proclus with the title “Hekate and Ianos,” shows that connection. Proclus is one of the most important philosophers of the ancient Hellenic philosophy, a representative of Neoplatonism, a follower of Hekate and a great theurgist. There is also a great number of archaeological evidence showing the connection of these two goddesses and it seems that Cybele and Hekate are great friends. Here, Hekate is called the mother of gods and according to the mythology, Cybele is the mother of gods. Part of the hymn:

(Ancient text):

(Translation):

Chaire, mother of the gods, polyonyme, kalligenethle,

chaire Hekate prothyraia, megasthenes, chaire

chaire Iane father of our fathers, Zeus imperishable, chaire you ruler Zeus.

(Translation of the epithets):

kalligenethle = with good and beautiful children

prothyraia=the one who stands before the door

megasthenes=with great power

Montanus, also considered himself to be the “Holy Paraclete,” along with two women priestesses, Priscilla and Maximilla, who remarried themselves to God full-time, leaving their families to pursue a more spiritual life through celibacy, fleshly mortification and rigid focus for holiness. Eusebius tells us:

For some persons, like venomous reptiles, crawled over Asia and Phrygia, boasting that Montanus was the Paraclete, and that the women that followed him, Priscilla and Maximilla, were prophetesses of Montanus. (Church History, V. 14).

There is said to be a certain village called Ardabau in that part of Mysia, which borders upon Phrygia. There first, they say, when Gratus was proconsul of Asia, a recent convert, Montanus by name, through his unquenchable desire for leadership, gave the adversary opportunity against him. And he became beside himself, and being suddenly in a sort of frenzy and ecstasy, he raved, and began to babble and utter strange things, prophesying in a manner contrary to the constant custom of the Church handed down by tradition from the beginning (Church History, V. 16, 4).

Eventually, these Montanists would be excommunicated out of the early church and would even reject any Christian who was baptized as a Montanist. The church fathers unanimously rejected this group, all except for Tertullian, who ironically, considering his staunch stance against any and all Gnostic heresy, became a Montanist convert himself! In fact, Tertullian describes a specific Montanist church meeting:

We have now amongst us a sister whose lot it has been to be favoured with sundry gifts of revelation, which she experiences in the Spirit by ecstatic vision amidst the sacred rites of the Lord’s day in the church: she converses with angels, and sometimes even with the Lord; she both sees and hears mysterious communications;  some men’s hearts she understands, and to them who are in need she distributes remedies. Whether it be in the reading of Scriptures, or in the chanting of psalms, or in the preaching of sermons, or in the offering up of prayers, in all these religious services matter and opportunity are afforded to her of seeing visions. It may possibly have happened to us, whilst this sister of ours was rapt in the Spirit, that we had discoursed in some ineffable way about the soul.

Although the Montanists were orthodox in all matters of doctrines, their methodologies for worship and self-discipline were considered to be heretical in the sense that they were “legalistic” in keeping hold to their torturous methods of self-mortification. In a sense, they can be considered “proto-pentecostal.” Responses to this movement were mixed within the church, since, after all, prophecy was a genuine gift of God or the Holy Spirit in the New Testament. Interestingly, the church father Jerome would deride Montanus as a “cut-off, half-man,” a not-so-subtle allusion that Montanus was a castrated priest of the Phrygian Mother goddess Cybele. He is also called a “priest of Apollo” or a “priest of an idol” (hence the sin of idolatry) before his conversion to Christianity, according to the text, The dialogue of a Montanist with an Orthodox.

It is said that when he read the Gospel of John’s Jesus’s promises that the spirit of truth will be with his disciples. They also held on to a modalistic view of the Trinity, by stating that three different epochs within history were divided up according to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and their “age of grace,” was ruled over by the Holy Spirit. Montanus’ prophetic, ecstatic utterances could also very well be mistaken to those cults dedicated to Apollo and Dionysus. At worse, according to some Orthodox bishops, Montanus and his followers were under a demonic deception and a tool of the devil since Montanus himself was a pagan priest. As it follows, perhaps, Montanus was also a priest dedicated to an earlier incarnation of Mete/Baphomet.

In the next post, we will see how the symbols and numerology used in Eyes Wide Shut and 2001: A Space Odyssey, all converge in their representation to initiated eyes to see. Is the dream offered by the Womb of Darkness closing and folding up as time flows between our fingers? What exactly is the Womb of Darkness? It connects to what Genesis refers to as the firmament or the vault, as we will see next time. The recent 2017 eclipse does seem to provide us with a major celestial sign that ties with repenting with “sackcloth and ashes,” that Jesus advises in Luke 10 and the Sign of John that Jesus invokes in Matthew 12:40. It also happens to have occurred 40 days from September 23, 2017, in which the great, astrological wonder sign of Revelation 12 is supposed to manifest in the heavens, much like how the inhabitants of Nineveh had 40 days to repent. Also, Big Ben is being shut down until 2021 for repairs. Odd synchronicities with everything that’s going on right now.

Even, in the film, Dark City, features an eclipse embedding in one of their logos! We also saw the deaths of certain celebrities like David Bowie (2016) who invoked the “Dark Star,” and Chris Cornell (2017) from the band Soundgarden, which performed the song, “Black Hole Sun.” Here are part of the lyrics:

“In my eyes, indisposed

In disguises no one knows

Hides the face, lies the snake

The sun in my disgrace

Boiling heat, summer stench

‘Neath the black the sky looks dead

Call my name through the cream

And I’ll hear you scream again

Black hole sun

Won’t you come

And wash away the rain

Black hole sun

Won’t you come

Won’t you come (won’t you come)…”

We see in Revelation 12:5, that the male child is “caught up” in a divine cesarian operation. The Greek word used for “caught up” or “snatched up” is harpazo, and it is the word used for the rapture of the Church in 1 Thessalonians 4:17.  Every single mention of Jesus’ ascension is described using the words epairo or anabaino, both of which indicate a gradual rising (like climbing a mountain), not a quick and violent snatching away (harpazo). Does the date 9/23/2017 have anything to do with this “snatching away” as some believe? Perhaps, but it would contradict another verse of scripture in Matthew (24:32-33):

“Now learn a parable of the fig tree (Israel); When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye SHALL SEE ALL THESE THINGS, know that it is near, even at the doors.”

In other words, perhaps such an event could happen in the early summer, if we are to take the “rapture” idea literally. The 2017 eclipse happened on the 21st. Hurricane Harvey came in on the 25th and flooding the 26th. And very soon, Hurricane Irma is about to unleash a torrent of floods and violent winds, against the southern parts of the United States, stronger than any natural disaster known in recent memory. Now look what Luke 21:25-26 (NKJV) says:

And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.

Oh, Black Hole Sun, won’t you come indeed.

The Seven Parts of the Holy Spirit

In the Gospel of John (14:26), we see Jesus saying:

But the Parakletos, Who is the Holy Spirit, Who the Father will send in My name, He will teach you everything…”

The pronoun “He” is demanded since the Greek word Parakletos, is a masculine noun. It means “advocate” (or “comforter” as Origen and the KJV would have it). Many Christians regard the word Paraclete as a proper name for the Holy Spirit, but this assumption is false because the Holy Spirit is not the only Paraklete.

If anyone sins, we have a Parakletos Who is with the Father – Jesus Christ the righteous. – I John 2:1

We see here, quite plainly, that Jesus Christ is a Paraklete along with the Holy Spirit, Who is another Paraclete.

“I (Christ) will pray to the Father and He will give you another Parakletos, Who will live with you forever, even the Spirit of truth.” – John 14:16

What does the term “another” mean except that there must be at least two Parakletes, the Son and the Spirit. Therefore, the word “Paraklete” cannot be a specific name for the Holy Spirit. It is not a proper name. It is only a descriptive noun whose gender is incidental and unimportant. Once this is grasped, the masculinity of the Holy Spirit becomes completely unnecessary.

Another reason for why the Holy Spirit is traditionally called “He” occurs because of Hebrew-Greek translation issues. As mentioned before, the Hebrew word Ruach, a feminine noun meaning breath, wind, or spirit, was used frequently in the Hebrew Bible in the phrase Ruach Elohim which means “Spirit of God.” Thus, the Holy Spirit of the Old Testament is undoubtedly feminine. When the Hebrew was translated into Greek, the Greek word “Pneuma” was chosen to substitute for “Ruach,” since it also meant breath, wind, or spirit. But the gender was lost in translation, for Pneuma carries a neuter gender. Thus, the phrase Pneuma to Agion, which is used very commonly throughout the New Testament and means “Holy Spirit,” actually possesses a neuter gender. We can see the linguistic tension displayed by studying several translations of Acts 8:15-16,

Prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for it had not yet fallen on any of them – RSV

Prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them) – KJV

Prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them – NIV

The RSV preserves the most literal meaning, calling the Holy Spirit an “it,” according to pneuma’s neuter gender. The KJV calls the Holy Spirit “He” in an attempt to preserve the Personhood of the Trinity’s third member, but the literal translation demands the pronoun “It.” The NIV attempts to sidestep the issue altogether, intentionally ignoring the actual Greek and spelling out the noun again when, in fact, the Greek text demands a pronoun instead. Of course, the KJV’s solution to the problem has become the convention. The web of doctrinal errors caused by the translators can be superseded by a more ancient doctrine that is closer to what the earliest Christians believed, which that the Mother is one and the same as the Holy Spirit. Interestingly, according to scripture, the Holy Spirit is composed of seven parts!

Wisdom has built Her house. She has hewn out Her seven pillars. – Proverbs 9:1

Grace and peace be with you from Him Who is, Who was, and Who is to come, and from the seven Spirits Who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ…”- Revelation 1:4-5

There are seven eyes on that stone – Zechariah 3:9

She says “Come, eat My bread and drink the wine I have mixed.” – Proverbs 9:5

“There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse,

And a Branch shall grow out of his roots.

The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him,

The Spirit of wisdom and understanding,

The Spirit of counsel and might,

The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.” Isaiah 11:1-2

3447959

The seven pillars, the seven spirits of God and the seven eyes of the holy stone all refer to the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit according to St. Paul 1 Corinthians (12:27-31):

27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually. 28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way.

And yet without the spirit of Love, all of these gifts are vanity as St. Paul continues in the next chapter:

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

Revelation 12 also seems to have a Gnostic flavor to it as well, as I’ve discussed in depth in Gnostic Exegesis in Revelation 12. As quoted above, we do see the woman with eagle wings who gives birth to the “male child” sounds curiously close to Sophia-Achamoth who is oppressed by the “red dragon” or the “serpent,” which are codes in Ophite-Gnostic terminology for Yaltabaoth, the “child of chaos” we see in many Gnostic texts. He is a sort of a Chimera of Satan, the Dragon of Revelation, and Yahweh or Jehovah’s more negative aspects of jealousy, anger and wrath. The “male child” is a Gnostic code word for spirit. And as we already saw, the spirit is often portrayed as female, however it is equally acceptable for the spirit to to be depicted as male as well. The offspring of Sophia, or the Mother are the pneumatics who obey God’s instructions and commandments and worship the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As Tim Claason points out in Sophia and the Queen of Heaven, there are striking similarities between the Winged Mother and Male Child and the Christ that was brought forth from a heavenly Mother per Irenaeus in Against Heresies (Book 1, 11).

Christ also was not produced from the Æons within the Pleroma, but was brought forth by the mother who had been excluded from it, in virtue of her remembrance of better things, but not without a kind of shadow. He, indeed, as being masculine, having severed the shadow from himself, returned to the Pleroma; but his mother being left with the shadow, and deprived of her spiritual substance, brought forth another son, namely, the Demiurge, whom he also styles the supreme ruler of all those things which are subject to him.

Woman_of_the_Apocalypse_(Hortus_deliciarum)

The “wilderness” that the dark face of Sophia finds herself stranded in is the bitter waters of primordial chaos that existed before the ordered structure of the universe as does the floods spewed from the serpent’s mouth to drown the “male child”. We see other instances of the “wilderness” of chaos throughout the Old Testament including where the Israelites and the sacrifice of atonement, Azazel, were cast into. 1 Enoch also tells us that sin would be “ascribed to” or “given” to Azazel, chained in Sheol, or the wilderness, from the time of Noah. In a way, the wilderness can be seen as being somehow connected to “Sheol,” “Hades” or the intermediate realm. And somehow the Winged Woman escapes the wrath of the gods and hides in the wilderness, as well. The flood symbolism also connects to Jesus’ own words from Luke 17:26, connecting the return of Christ during a time that resembles just like the days of Noah, in which the flood obviously occurred: “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man.”

In the first part of Revelation 12, we see the Woman Clothed with the Sun as being in labor pains about to give birth while the great, fiery red dragon with seven heads and ten horns is not too far behind that is preparing to devour the “male child” of the Sun Lady. This red dragon also happened to drag one third of the stars with him from heaven to earth. The male child or the Body of Christ is also prophesized to be given a “rod of iron” to rule the nations one day, under the reign of Christ and the saints to replace the rulership of Satan and hostile his angels over the world.

The word “rod” is connected to the Shepherd’s club as well as the raised staff with the brazen serpent that Moses was instructed to erect so that the children of Israel could look upon it be saved from the wrath of fiery serpent demons. The male child here seems to have a threefold meaning: it represents not only the “spirit” but also the church. Although the church is depicted many times as the “Bride of Christ” it can also be depicted as “male.” The male child can also symbolize the Messiah as prophesied in Isaiah and fulfilled in the Gospels and in Paul’s epistles.

In both the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox traditions, believers are encouraged to offer prayers to the Virgin Mary, whom they honor as the Mother of God. It is fitting for them to turn to her and ask her to intercede on their behalf before her beloved Son. In many of their services, they find themselves singing a simple refrain: “O’ Most-Holy Theotokos, Save Us!” Another popular prayer to the Virgin is based on the words of the Archangel Gabriel at the Annunciation: “Rejoice, Mary full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women.” And so, Orthodox Christians are reminded to never lose sight of the significant role that the Theotokos played in God’s plan of salvation for mankind. She found favor with God and was selected from all the women who ever lived to the instrument of God’s grace, giving flesh to His Divine Son.

Irenaeus in Against Heresies (1.15.3), tells us that a certain arch-heretic, Marcus the Magician taught that the historical, fleshy Jesus was born not just from the Holy Spirit but also from the “Son of Man,” the Church, the Logos, and Life:

As to the AEons, they proceeded from the Tetrad, and in that Tetrad were Anthropos and Ecclesia, Logos and Zoe. The powers, then, he declares, who emanated from these, generated that Jesus who appeared upon the earth. The angel Gabriel took the place of Logos, the Holy Spirit that of Zoe, the Power of the Highest that of Anthropos, while the Virgin pointed out the place of Ecclesia. And thus, by a special dispensation, there was generated by Him, through Mary, that man, whom, as He passed through the womb, the Father of all chose to [obtain] the knowledge of Himself by means of the Word.

The Sun Lady is also taken into the wilderness and is actually prepared a place for her to rest in as some sort of bubble that separates her from the chaos outside and is even “fed” for 3 and ½ years. In the second part of the chapter, we see Michael battling Satan, the Devil and Deceiver, who casts him out from heaven and his angelic host. Next, Revelation 12:10-13 states:

10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. 12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.

It is clear that after the “Male child” is snatched away and taken up to heaven, while the Devil is cast out to the earth and tribulation and chaos quickly ensues thereafter upon all who dwell in the world, hence: Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.” Margaret Barker in The Woman Clothed with the Sun and the Book of Revelation remarks on this part of Revelation 12, connecting Jesus’s testimony to his disciples from Luke 10:

Jesus had seen this vision. When the seventy disciples returned from their mission, joyful that they had been able to cast out demons, Jesus said: ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy…’ (Luke 10.17-19). When had he seen this? Seventy is a significant number since there had been 70 sons of God, that is, 70 great angels, in the world of the first temple, and here they have defeated the offspring of the great dragon, the ancient serpent.

There are many indications in the gospels that Jesus knew the visions in Revelation. His parable of the angel reapers, for example (Matt.13.36-43) is very similar to the vision of the angel reapers in Revelation 14; and the so-called little apocalypse (Mark 13 and parallels) is a summary of Revelation 6, the vision of the seven seals. The opening lines of the Book of Revelation say that these are the visions received by Jesus: ‘The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to him to show to his servants what must soon take place…’ John the Baptist knew that Jesus had received visions: ‘He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony (John 3.32). The meaning of the visions was revealed to John, when Jesus the Lord sent his angel to him. In John’s gospel, this angel is the called the Paraclete, the Spirit of truth who teaches all things and helps the disciple to remember (John 14.26; 16.13).

The number 70, as Barker points out is a very important point and is tied with numerology/Greek gematria. As pointed out previously in my article, High Priests of the Heavenly Temple: Jesus, Melchizedek and Metatron of 3 Enoch, Paul believed that his generation was ruled under the 70th angel, which is one the “Sons of God” of the “Most High God” being “El Elyon.” This is indicated in Ephesians 6:12, where he states that various principalities, powers and archons of darkness that rule over the heavens and earth. Psalms 82 tells us that the Most High God, through his Son, Yahweh/Jesus, will eventually judge the seventy angelic princes who fell from their “first estate” in the Divine Council. He will also judge the nations that are put under the sway and control of Satan, the “Prince and Power of the Air” and the injustices carried out under the rulership of “the gods” or the archons. There are many meanings attached the the number 70. The number 70 is also connected to the number of generations that exist between Enoch and Jesus. In 1 Enoch 10 (11-12), God commands Michael to bind the sinful Watchers in the valleys of the earth for 70 generations:

And the Lord said unto Michael: ‘Go, bind Semjâzâ and his associates who have united themselves with women so as to have defiled themselves with them in all their uncleanness. And when their sons have slain one another, and they have seen the destruction of their beloved ones, bind them fast for seventy generations in the valleys of the earth, till the day of their judgement and of their consummation, till the judgement that is for ever and ever is consummated.

It was the mission of Jesus to undo the damage inflicted from the cursed covenant made with the Watchers, placed upon mankind. In the article, The Divine Council and the Kabbalah by Peter Goodwill, he writes:

Liberation is what the sacrifice of Jesus did for humanity. Prior to the Messiah God possessed just one nation, but after the Cross the grip on the nations that was held by the wicked b’nai ha elohim was broken, and the way became open for every human being to become one with the Creator. The old system of God dealing with the pagan nations on a second-hand basis through the medium of the Divine Council was ended. The rule of the gods was over, and through Christ every human being could become personally reconciled with the one true God.

In the Old Testament God stands in the divine assembly and accuses the b’nai ha elohim of being unjust and merciless in their dealings with humanity (Psalm 82), and of being in error (Job 4:18), and unclean (Job 15:15). And in Psalm 82 and Isaiah 24:21 God declares that one day these powers will be punished and destroyed. That day is not far off, but in the meantime these fallen and humiliated b’nai ha elohim continue to plot against God and deceive humanity.

It should be noted that these are also the same as the “Shepherd angels” or “Watchers” discussed at length in Jeremiah and 1 and 2 Enoch and even their titanic and daemonic Nephilim children. The Dead Sea Scroll Damascus Document (3:15-20) even mentions the angels who would intermarry with the daughters of men and have intercourse with them.

Hear now, my sons, and I will uncover your eyes that you may see and understand the works of God, that you may choose that which pleases Him and reject that which He hates, that you may walk perfectly in all His ways and not follow after thoughts of the guilty inclination and after eyes of lust. For through them, great men have gone astray and mighty heroes have stumbled from former times till now. Because they walked in the stubbornness of their heart the Heavenly Watchers fell; they were caught because they did not keep the commandments of God. And their sons also fell who were tall as cedar trees and whose bodies were like mountains. All flesh on dry land perished; they were as though they had never been because they did their own will and did not keep the commandment of their Maker so that His wrath was kindled against them.

And as Barker mentions in her lengthy article, Jesus Christ himself in Luke (10:1-7), gives his seventy disciples, a holy mission to preach that “the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you”:

After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer is worthy of his hire.”

It seems to me that these seventy missionaries are undoing the evil influence of the angelic rulers in the cities and nations that Jesus threatens with fiery judgement, in the end, as we see only sentences later. Jesus then testifies that he witnessed Satan fall like lightning from heaven to earth, mirroring how the Devil is cast to earth by Michael in Revelation 12:

“Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you. And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell. He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.”

And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, “Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, “I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding, in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.”

jonah-and-whale

In the book, Gnostic John the Baptizer: Selections from the Mandæan John-Book by G.R.S. Mead says that the Jonah myth is tied with the idea that the initiate would have to descended to the “Belly of the Whale” which is a metaphor for descending to Hades or hell, would preach to those in Nineveh, which is symbolic of the world much like how Jesus descends to Hades to preach to the condemned spirits. Such episodes sound like they are related to spiritual alchemy and the rebirth process.

The Jonah-legend provided a very suitable setting wherein to depict the life of a prophet who caused his hearers to repent, and it may be that Jesus referred to John as ‘a greater Jonah’ (Mt. 12:41). The most striking image in the mythic story is the Great Fish. Now the belly of the Great Fish for the Jewish allegorists, and indeed it is plainly stated in the legend itself, was Sheōl, the Underworld, the Pit. But another mythic Great Fish, or perhaps the same in another aspect, was the cosmic monster Leviāthān. And symbolists, allegorists and mystics got busy with this mythic figure. Thus we find that Leviāthān was the name given by the Ophites of Celsus, who are plainly of Syrian Babylonian origin, to the Seven,—that is to the cosmic animal psychē, the hierarchy of rulers and devourers of the animal souls of men as well as of animals proper, each of the Seven being symbolized by an animal figure, probably an animal-faced (lion, etc.) dragon or fish.

In the Mandæan tradition the Fisher of Souls takes the Seven in his net and destroys them, even as in the old Babylonian myth the Saviour-god Manduk {sic., read Marduk} catches Tiamāt, their mother, the primeval dragon of the deep, in his net and destroys her. And strangely enough there is an old Rabbinical legend of Jonah preserved in the Midrash Yalqut Yona (§ 1), which relates that, when the prophet was in the belly of the Great Fish, he prayed that it should carry him quickly to the Leviāthān, so that be might catch it with his fishing tackle. For Jonah desired, when once again safely ashore, to make of its flesh a feast for the righteous,—a distinct reference to the Messianic fish-banquet which is to take place in the days of the End.

In the Strong Concordance, we see the number 70 is connected to the Hebrew word “oben.” Oben means a “wheel” or a “disk.” In the Greek, the number 70 is connected with “watching” or “sleeplessness” which have potent connections to gnosis as we see in the Parable of the Ten Maidens (Matthew 25:1-13) and in the Gospel of Mark 14 (32-42). The prophet Ezekiel had a vision of a “tetramorph,” which is composed of four creatures, having the heads of a man, a bull, a lion and an eagle, each attached to one of the sides of God’s “chariot,” or traveling throne.

Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces. The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto the color of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel (Ezekiel 1:15-16).

In the Gnostic text, On the Origin of the World, it tells us that the redeemed Archon Sabaoth creates for himself a throne attended by “Cherubin” or Cherubim. This Archon sounds a lot like Yahweh and his heavenly throne envisioned by Ezekiel. It also tells us that there also 72 gods or kosmocrators that rule over the 72 languages of the “peoples” being mankind.

And before his mansion he created a throne, which was huge and was upon a four-faced chariot called “Cherubin”. Now the Cherubin has eight shapes per each of the four corners, lion forms and calf forms and human forms and eagle forms, so that all the forms amount to sixty-four forms – and seven archangels that stand before it; he is the eighth, and has authority. All the forms amount to seventy-two. Furthermore, from this chariot the seventy-two gods took shape; they took shape so that they might rule over the seventy-two languages of the peoples. And by that throne he created other, serpent-like angels, called “Seraphin”, which praise him at all times.

This is what St. John the Divine also sees (with some variations) in Revelation 4:6-9. The wheel is also connected to “wheel of fate” mentioned by the church father Hippolytus in Refutation of All Heresies (V, 10), as being guided by Kronos, the demiurge as testified by the Peratic gnostics. What does any of this have to do with the assumption of the Mother and the male child into heaven? As we saw just now, the Book of Revelation has many correspondences to not only Gnosticism, but also other apocalyptic literature such as Ezekiel and the Book of Enoch. It is this wheel of fate that also seems to be broken and even transformed as we will discuss more in depth in a future chapter. And in the next post, we will see how all of this connects to what is occurring on the world stage and perhaps even in future events.

The Children of Satan

This post will be a series of notes I’ve taken from my research into the controversy between Jesus Christ and the Jewish Pharisees from chapter 8 from the Fourth Gospel.

31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

33 They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”

34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. 35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

In John 8, Jesus tells the Pharisees, point blank that they are slaves to sin, and that such a slave to sin does not abide in the house forever. However, according to Jesus, the Son abides or act in accordance with the house, who is written in the inheritance, in the Kingdom of God (compare this to Luke 13:22-30). It is the Son or the Logos that imparts the Word to to the believer to be set free from sin. The Jews claim they are descended from Abraham, the Old Testament patriarch (that was commanded to sacrifice his son by Yahweh, to test his devotion), and they were not born out of carnal fornication but by God. Jesus rebuttals this by saying they belong to the Devil, as children and spiritual descendants from him, meaning that their origins are not the same.

The God for Jesus Christ is completely alien and unknown to the Jews and perhaps the vast majority of fleshy mankind, since they do not belong to Him. For the Jews, Yahweh/Jehovah is their god, while the God, Jesus speaks of is the heavenly Father. Also note that not once does Jesus call his Father “Yahweh,” nor do any of the New Testament writers ever mention the tetragrammaton. While the Demiurge or “public worker” is a Platonic concept, it can be found directly in the Fourth Gospel, in which the Johannite Jesus is obviously speaking of. This is the same power that Paul also speaks of in Galatians 3 and 2 Corinthians 3.

37 “I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. 38 I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with[l] your father.”

39 They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.”

Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham. 40 But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. 41 You do the deeds of your father.”

Then they said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father—God.”

42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. 43 Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? 47 He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”

It is obvious from a literal reading of these verses that Jesus Christ himself is speaking of two gods, commonly found in later Gnostic theology: the God of the Jews who’s nature is evil and the nature of Jesus’s God, is of love. In the Old Testament, we see that the Angel of the Lord, is actually Satan, who is also a genocidal murderer that goes around influencing the wholesale onslaught of the Canaanites, Amorites, Jebusites and Hittites as Exodus 33:2 tells us:

I will send an angel before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.

Exodus 11:4-7 also tells us that the God of the Jews tells Moses that he will send an angel of death to pour out his wrath against the firstborn children of Egypt.

About midnight I will go out into the midst of Egypt; and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the female servant who is behind the handmill, and all the firstborn of the animals.  Then there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as was not like it before, nor shall be like it again.  But against none of the children of Israel shall a dog move its tongue, against man or beast, that you may know that the Lord does make a difference between the Egyptians and Israel.

Jesus tells the Pharisees that they seek to murder him and of course, this happens in his eventual crucifixion. April DeConick in Who Is Hiding in the Gospel of John? Reconceptualizing Johannine Theology and the Roots of Gnosticismtells us that the original Greek text of John can be directly translated in this fashion:

“You are from the father of the Devil.” If the statement were to mean, as the standard English translation renders it, “You are of the father, the Devil…”

She also goes on to write:

I found that this verse functioned as a calling card for Gnostics who used it as plain evidence that Jesus taught that the Jewish God was the father of the Devil. A number of Gnostics employed this verse to prove that Jesus himself instructed them that there existed a god in addition to Jesus’ true Father. This other god is the God of the Jews and is responsible for the generation of the Devil and evil.

They insisted that this verse demonstrates that determinism plays a role in human nature, especially in terms of the most wicked people, the apostates. According to these Gnostics, it is a wicked deity – the Jewish god – who fathered both the apostates and the Devil. The early catholics faced a real dilemma when it came to explaining this verse.

In order to neutralize it, they insisted that the Greek be read appositionally, “you are from the father, the Devil” even though they confess that reading it this way would be clearer if the genitive article before father were erased. Their ultimate concern is that the scripture cannot say “from the father of the Devil” so they plead that another reading of the text is necessary, a reading that they regard as ‘better’ than the plain reading. They are so certain that that text means “from the father, the Devil” that they freely render it, “You are sons of the Devil,” and attribute these words to Jesus instead of the words found in the scripture. They are uneasy about quoting the Greek in the form it appears in the biblical passage itself. So they tend to substitute for it what they think the passage should say by paraphrasing the passage whenever they reference it.

In 1 John 3-11, the author contrasts the love of the heavenly Father with the actions of the children of the first humans created by Yahweh and his angelic Elohim, back in Genesis.

11 For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. 12 Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous. 13 Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters, if the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death. 15 Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.

In the Valentinian Heracleon’s commentary (Fragment 46) on the Gospel of John, he has this to say about this conundrum:

The verse “You are of your father the Devil” is to be understood as meaning ‘of the same substance as the Devil.’ On “and your wish is to do your father’s desires”: The Devil has no will, but only desires. . . This was said not to those who are by nature children of the Devil, but to the animate people who have become children of the Devil by intent. Some who are of this nature may also be called children of God by intent. Because they have loved the desires of the Devil and performed them, they become children of the Devil, though they were not such by nature.

The word “children” may be understood in three ways: first, by nature; secondly, by inclination; thirdly, by merit. (A child) by nature means (the child) is begotten by someone who is himself begotten, and is properly called “child.” (A child) by inclination is when one who does the will of another person by his own inclination is called the child of the one whose will he does. (A child) by merit is when some are known as children of hell, or of darkness and lawlessness, and the offspring of snakes and vipers. For these do no produce anything by their own nature; they are destructive and consume those that are cast into them; but, since they did their works, they are called their children. . . He now calls them children of the Devil, not because the Devil produces any of them, but because by doing the works of the Devil they became like him.

Conventional Christian theology understands the “god of this world” in the Gospel of John as the devil. But according to April DeConick’s research, the devil or the angel of death, actually has a father, who is the Jewish God, Yahweh, the creator and ruler of the world. It is Jesus’s origin that stems above the Lord of the Law and his son the Devil. The territory of the Lawgiver is “this world,” including the earth herself and the atmosphere and firmament. The God that Jesus preached is a different God, a God of the Heavens, a supreme Father, who’s Kingdom is completely alien and radically different to the world of matter and flesh. The devil merely functions as Yahweh’s attack dog. To all you Satanists out there, you’re actually worshiping a dog.

While Yahweh is clearly parodied in the Satanic figure of Yaldabaoth, the lion-headed god of chaos, who’s eyes burns with fire, some Gnostics would actually attempt to rehabilitate Yahweh as the redeemed Archon Sabaoth who repents to Sophia in the Hypostasis of the Archons and On the Origin of the World. He is also syncretized with the astral lion-headed Chnoubis and the infamous Gnostic anguipede Abrasax of Basilides, in which Yahweh or Jehovah is demoted to one of the chief angels under the “Great Ruler” of Abrasax as per Hippolytus. And it is this God that rules at the top of the universe and functions as the veil between the world of matter and the spiritual kingdom beyond, or where the supra-mundane God dwells. Interestingly, in the Gnostic text, On the Origin of the World, we see that the Gnostic author equates Jesus Christ, as being a manifestation of the Savior in the Eighth Heaven and sits at Sabaoth’s right upon the heavenly throne.

Thereafter he created a congregation of angels, thousands and myriads, numberless, which resembled the congregation in the eighth heaven; and a firstborn called Israel – which is, “the man that sees God”; and another being, called Jesus Christ, who resembles the savior above in the eighth heaven, and who sits at his right upon a revered throne. And at his left, there sits the virgin of the holy spirit, upon a throne and glorifying him.

The redeemed god and daemon, Sabaoth is also associated with ritual magic, exorcisms and the torment of demons, as seen in the Testament of Solomon and the PGM. Anyway, that’s it for now. Have a blessed day.

Johnny Mercury: John the Baptist in Egypt

Originally posted last year on Miguel Conner’s Aeon Byte Gnostic Radio site.

As the transit of the sun by the planet Mercury on May 9 draws closer, one may wonder the lore associated with Mercury and how it relates to other religions such as Christianity. The cosmocrator, Mercury, does relate to one particular figure—John the Baptist. John the Baptist is a peculiar, eponymous hero that appears many times not only in Christianity and the Gospels, but also in Gnostic, Mandean, Freemasonic and last but not least, connected to Egyptian sources. In the Gospel of John, he is depicted as a witness, a herald, a dedicated servant or a “Prophet-King” for the Light of the Logos, personified as Jesus Christ.

The Gospel of John goes out of its way to make sure the reader doesn’t confuse John the Baptist with the Messiah. In John 3:25-30, we see this distinction between Jesus and John being brought out in the controversy over purification between John’s disciples and a Jew. After this, Jesus withdraws from the whole argument (4:1) and from baptism itself since something greater than water is coming, being the baptism in the Spirit, which Jesus provides after his death and resurrection. John is adamant in saying that Jesus alone, and not the baptism is enough to take away the sins of the world. We see later that through the death of Jesus, are water and Spirit united (the means to be born again: 3:5), for out of his pierced side flowed, both water and blood (19: 34), united by the Spirit in the water of baptism and the wine of the Eucharist (cf. 1 John 5:5-8).

“An argument developed between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew over the matter of ceremonial washing.  They came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan—the one you testified about—look, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him.”

To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven.  You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’  The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He must become greater; I must become less.”

“He must become greater, but I must become less.” This is John’s swan song, his last word in the gospel. It is also the formula under which John operates in the entire gospel, as well. His witness abides, but John slips off the stage. His death of beheading isn’t even mentioned. There is a more interesting theory behind John’s parting words. The late, departed and always controversial mythicist author, Acharya S aka D.M. Murdock, in Christ in Egypt, has this to say on the subject:

Anubis is somewhat confounded or identified with the god Ap-uat as the “opener of the ways,” while, again, Apuat/Wepwawet is also “identical with Osiris.” Like Anubis, Osiris too was the opener of the way, being born at the beginning at the Egyptian New Year, when it occurred at the summer solstice with the inundation of the Nile. However, since Wepwawet has been identified with Osiris, who in turn has been identified with Jesus, this comparison between John and Anubis becomes increasingly apparent, as Anubis would represent the summer solstice and Osiris the winter, while John the Baptist was supposedly born at the summer solstice, six months before Jesus, who was purportedly born at the winter solstice, according to popular tradition dating from at least the third century onward and taught to billions of people worldwide since then.

This juxtaposition of John and Jesus as the sun at summer and winter solstice brings vividly to light the meaning of the enigmatic remark made by “the Baptist” at John 3:30, previously mentioned: “He must increase, but I must decrease.” As the sun passes through the summer solstice, the days begin to decrease in length, until the winter solstice, when the day’s increase again. This peculiar remark, which would not seem to be applicable to a human being, is all the more interesting in view of the fact that it appears only in the gospel of John, again the most Egyptian of the canonical texts, likely written at Alexandria for an Egyptian audience. It may thus serve as evidence that the writer of the gospel was aiming to usurp Anubis with the Jewish “prophet.”

In keeping with the interchangeability of gods within mythology, Anubis is identified not only with Thoth but also with Osiris, his father, depending on the myth. Osiris and Anubis alike not only were associated with the afterlife but also symbolized both the star Sirius and different aspects of the sun, Osiris frequently representing the sun at night, while, like Horus, Anubis was the sun at the horizon, whether rising or setting.

According to Plutarch…Anubis is the horizon itself, representing the line between light and dark. He may thus also be considered “twilight.” As the baby whom she suckles with her finger, Anubis (the horizon) is Isis’s “attendant,” who accompanies her when she seeks her own newborn son (the rising sun). In addition, like Osiris, Anubis is the “god of the dead or the night god.”…

Anubis is further the “‘giver of Sirius,’ the starry opener of the year,” corresponding to the summer solstice, which just happens to be the traditional nativity and feast of John the Baptist… Indeed, St. John’s Nativity or Feast occurs on June 24th, the last of the three days the sun “stands still” during the summer solstice. Like John, who was said to be born six months before Jesus, Anubis was born shortly before Horus. The connection between John the Baptist and Anubis becomes more pointed when it is realized that, while John’s fest days is on the summer solstice, Anubis actually represents the personification of the summer solstice…

The curious, and perhaps even tenuous connection between John and Anubis, is nonetheless trumpeted by Acharya S, who draws extensively on nineteenth century researchers like Gerald Massey, among others. It still remains to this day that Egyptian parallels are viewed with suspicion by most mainstream scholars (e.g. parallelomania). Gerald Massey, as it turns out, has many interesting things to say throughout his work, especially in his Historical Jesus and Mythical Christ. Here is put a tiny glimpse in his work:

The words of John, “Jesus wept,” are like a carven statue of the “Afflicted One,” as Remi, the Weeper. Ra is also the God who “makes the mummy come forth.” Jesus makes the mummy come forth in the shape of Lazarus; and in the Roman Catacombs the risen Lazarus is not only represented as a mummy, but is an Egyptian mummy which has been eviscerated and swathed for the eternal abode. Ra says to the mummy: “Come forth!” and Jesus cries: “Lazarus, come forth!” Ra manifests as “the burning one, he who sends destruction,” or “sends his fire into the place of destruction.” “He sends fire upon the rebels,” his form is that of the “God of the furnace.” Christ also comes in the person of this “burning one”; the sender of destruction by fire. He is proclaimed by Matthew to be the Baptiser with fire. He says, “I am come to send fire on the earth.” He is portrayed as “God of the furnace,” which shall “burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” He is to cast the rebellious into a “furnace of fire,” and send the condemned ones into everlasting fire.

All this was natural when applied to the Solar-God, and it is supposed to become supernatural when misapplied to a supposed human being to whom it never could apply. The Solar fire was the primary African fount of theological hell-fire and hell.

Of particular importance to uncovering the theological identity of this baptism is its description as an external physical purification, whose efficacy is also preconditioned by inner spiritual purification. Such practices did not exist in mainstream Judaism, and in fact developed on the fringes of Jewish religion, like Qumran (perhaps with the Essenes) and continued by Jewish-Christian groups in the first century (A.D.) onward. However, such practices actually originate in Egypt. In the Hermopolitan Pyramid Texts (Sarcophagus Chamber: East Gable, Utterance 211:132), we read:

“Unas is conceived at night, Unas is born at night, for he belongs to the Followers of Re who are before the Morning Star. Unas is conceived in the Watery Abyss, he is being born in the Watery abyss. He has come, he has brought your bread which he has found there!”

Unas, was, in actuality, an ancient Egyptian Pharaoh, the ninth and last ruler of the Fifth Dynasty during the Old Kingdom period. Unas was also the first Pharaoh to have the Pyramid Texts carved and painted inside the walls of the chambers of Egypt as well. These texts identify Unas with Ra and Osiris, who were meant to help Unas reach the afterlife. Unas is said to be born at night in the watery abyss, and belong “to the followers of Re, who are before the Morning Star.” Gnostic texts like On the Origin of the World also depicts the Demiurge, Ialdabaoth, “moving in the depths of the waters of the abyss.” The title “Morning-Star” (Lucifer) here probably refers to Horus. Furthermore, Unas brought the “bread” in the “watery abyss” which brings to mind John the immerser, and Jesus’ words about being born again through “water and spirit” while bringing the Eucharistic “bread out of heaven.” (As pointed out further onward).

The English word “messiah” is a corruption of the Hebrew mashiach, which came to mean “anointed,” referring to how Egyptian Pharaohs and kings were invested and consecrated as royalty. At death, it may also refer to one is embalmed and prepared for mummification to survive in the netherworld. The root meaning of being a messiah meant to be like a “Moses”, a king, leader, way shower-to-freedom, and emissary to God. In the Old Testament (2 Samuel 2:14), we see King David, being anointed as a “Son of God.”

“When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be his Father, and he shall be My son.”

Psalms 2:6 also says similar things. Thus the Gospel of John draws a parallel between Moses and Jesus specifically to state that Jesus is the Messiah, by God’s anointment and appointment. And it says Jesus is superior to him in a few verses. Although Jesus in the Gospel of John builds on Moses’ tradition with allusions to the raising of the bronze serpent (just like the caduceus of Enki, Asclepius and Hermes is said to be raised), Jesus declares himself and his heavenly substances as superior (6:32):

“Jesus therefore said to them, “Truly, truly I say to you, the bread out of heaven is not given you by Moses; no, the real bread out of heaven my Father is giving you. For the bread of God, is the one coming down out of heaven and giving life to the world.”

Acharya S, throughout Christ in Egypt, point out other similarities between Anubis, as being the “preparer of the way of the other world”, just as John the Baptist came to prepare the way for the Lord, and a connection between the Old Testament and the New (as a return of Elijah in which John denies being), as being the last Prophet-King and the first Christian saint. According to the arch-heretic Marcion, John proclaimed a Jewish messiah conversant with the Old Testament creator-God and had not expected a messiah like Jesus at all (Jesus as the Only-Begotten Son of the God above Jehovah). And so, John belonged to the old dispensation because of the connection between him and Elijah (Tertullian, Adv. Marcion, IV, 18). This wasn’t an attack against the Baptist cult, but rather a projection of Marcionite interpretation of the New Testament.

Acharya S further writes:

“Anubis is also the messenger of the gods, equivalent to the Greek god Hermes or Mercury, the counterpart of the Egyptian lunar god Thoth or Djehuty/Tehuti. Moreover, like Thoth, whose emblem is the Tau or T, Anubis is “never without a cross,” specifically the life-giving ankh, one of the holiest symbols in Egyptian religion. As related by the ancient writer Iamblichus (c. 245-c. 325 AD/CE), “The cross with a handle which Tot [Thoth] holds in his hand was none other than the monogram to his name.”

The connection between the ankh and the cross of Jesus is made more apparent when in Matthew 10:37, Jesus tells his disciples, “And he who does not take his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me.” Luke and Mark have similar variations of this passage. St. Paul is also said to be “crucified with Christ” often in his crucifixion mysticism. The Egyptian cross could be what Jesus is referring to in his commandment above. The ankh was a sign of royalty and life, whereas the cross of Christ was a symbol of debasement and sacrifice (but transformed into the means for “eternal life”).

One might also consider that the reason for such a strong connection between the Fourth Gospel, John the Baptist, Anubis, Hermes and the Egypto-Hermetic religion might be because John was initiated in Egypt, just as his son/disciple Simon the Magician was said to be. This would make sense considering there are so many similarities between the Corpus Hermeticum and the Gospel of John, too. In the Gospel of John, we see that Simon the Rock (Simon Peter) is said to be the son of John the Baptist, as well.

We must also remember that Mercury is Hermes, who was also depicted as a psychopomp—the god who guides dead souls through the netherworld. As it follows, John is following the tradition of the “wisdom god” via Hermes, Aquarius, Anubis, Oannes, Enki, etc. The last god, Enki, the Sumerian water god of creation and agriculture, is said to provide two streams of Living Waters from his shoulders. The baptism of the initiate is said to herald the anointing of God’s supernatural power via the Holy Spirit, but also given the means to successfully separate or cross over from the world of flesh and into the world of spirit, and thus be saved. This is the meaning behind the allegory of “crossing the River Jordan.”

It has been often been speculated that John was involved with the Essenes: his with this description in Mark 1:6, as being clothed with camel hair with a leather belt about his waist, and eating locusts and wild honey, as do the themes of repentance and purification. The Clementine writings, the Homilies and Recognitions also play an important part of the lore concerning John. In Baphomet: The Temple Mystery Unveiled, we discuss how the Clementines and the Babylonian Talmud show how Simon Magus and Jesus were both initiated in Egypt. Simon was known to pass on “the Christ” in discipleship succession—a practice that would be eventually adopted by Catholic Church through the apostolic succession of Bishops, Popes, etc.

Irenaeus (A.H. 1, 23.5) says that Simon initiated his disciple Menander, and as he passed the anointing holy spirit to his disciples—Saturninus and Basilides, which were both Gnostics. The Clementines also capture the idea that John the Baptist was hailed and considered to be the original “Christ”. Their enemies, however, would interpret this spirit as being a demon. This is actually what the unforgivable sin is according to Jesus (Matthew 12:30-32): blaspheming the holy spirit as demonic. Acts 8 also seems to be an early polemic/parody against this Simonian/Johannite practice, with Peter appropriating it, while Simon is seeking to “purchase” the powers of the Holy Spirit.

Here is more of what we have to say about it all this, in our book, Baphomet:

“In The Clementine Recognitions (1.54) and (1.60), it is described how some disciples of John felt that he was a more apt owner of the title “Christ” than Jesus:

Yea, some even of the disciples of John, who seemed to be great ones, have separated themselves from the people, and proclaimed their own master as the Christ. But all these schisms have been prepared, that by means of them the faith of Christ and baptism might be hindered.

. . .

And, behold, one of the disciples of John asserted that John was the Christ, and not Jesus, inasmuch as Jesus Himself declared that John was greater than all men and all prophets.

In John 8:48, Jesus is accused of being a Samaritan magician in control of a demon:

Then the Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say rightly that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?” Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon; but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. And I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks and judges.”

It should be noted that Jesus doesn’t deny being a Samaritan (as Simon was), but only having a demon. This must be significant since in an older, primitive text may have had Christ admit that he was a Samaritan. The Samaritans were also associated with witchcraft. One must keep in mind that The Babylonian Talmud also named Jesus as a sorcerer who studied magic in Egypt, just as Simon is said to have done in the Clementines. They were probably trained by a Hermopolitan priesthood (the likely authors of The Pyramid Texts). This may account for the twelve missing years in Jesus life. When he finally returned to face the Temple hierarchy, he was a highly educated young man full of heterodox ideas—a savvy, mystical antagonist, just as John was. In The Babylonian Talmud, specifically in Tosefta Shabbat 104b, we find an obscure figure by the name of “Ben Stada” or “Ben Sattadai” who is said to have had the “witchcraft of Egypt” (i.e. magic spells) tattooed on his flesh. (Some scholars have identified Ben Stada as Jesus Christ, but this is a point of contention.)”

Elsewhere in the Clementines, John is paired opposite Jesus in a series of “syzygiai” or pairs, in league with such characters as Cain, Esau, Aaron, Simon Magus and the Antichrist (Hom. 11, 17; cf. Recog. III, 61). The old Egyptologist, E.A. Wallis Budge, suggests that Horus is the embodiment of “He who is above” and Set of “He who is below,” (in their eternal struggle) thus holding a significance to “As Above, So Below” much like how John’s arms are depicted (pointing up and down) in Leonardo da Vinci paintings, as well as Baphomet.

In Hom. III, 22 John is referred to as one “born of a woman” and therefore of the feminine (fallen) order, whereas Jesus, as the Son of Man, is masculine (heavenly)—a familiar Gnostic idea. Both the Homilies and Recognitions connect John with the rise of the Gnostics Dositheus and Simon Magus, as well as being connected to the Jewish sects that opposed the Apostolic church—the Sadducees, Samaritans, Scribes/Pharisees, and the Baptists (the last of which would morph into other cults like the Simonians, Dositheans, Mandeans, etc.) While this might be pure speculation, since some of Simon Magus’ titles include “Standing One” and the “Great Power of God,” we might also find its origins in the Pyramid Texts (Utterance 222, saying 199).

“Stand up upon this land [which came out of Atum, the spittle] which came out of the Becoming One! May you become over it, may you be high over it, so that your father sees you, so that [Re] sees you!”

Jesus is called the “Word/Logos of God” or more accurately, the “Reason of God”. The Logos translates to “reason.” The Logoi are also principles of reasons in Platonic material, as a plural of the Logos. The Logoi also refer to the Platonic Forms related to the Gods. Theurgical tokens and symbols as used by Neoplatonists like Iamblichus use as manifestations of these divine powers. These symbols may exist in the forms of a lion, a rooster, or heliotrope, all of which are representations of Helios and Apollon.

Iamblichus also interprets Greek and Hermetic gods like Dionysus and Asclepius as manifestations of the sub-lunar Demiurge (the craftsman of the world, below the moon). The initiated theurgist was said to have the Logoi filled in their souls. In magical rituals dedicated to Mercury, such as a consecration of a talisman, the Logoi or element of that deity is said to “empower” the object, much like how a Catholic Priest is said to bless “holy water,” the Eucharist, etc., through the laying of hands via Holy Spirit power. One may think of the Logoi as “daimons” who draw the Hermetic god’s power to the magician.

We will return to ritual magic and Johnny Mercury. But for now, let us gaze at Leonardo da Vinci’s “Baptism of Christ.” Notice how John the Baptist is depicted as the Zodiacal sign of Aquarius (the figure who pours water), and Jesus is depicted as the sign of Pisces with the shape of his hands.
